VIA EPIA M10000 Mini-Itx Motherboard

Introduction

VIA has been in the motherboard market for some time now. Back in 1999, VIA bought out a company named Cyrix. Cyrix was selling a line of processors they claimed could run with just a heat sink. I almost bought one of them at a local computer show one year; instead I went with AMD. VIA was looking for a way to build a smaller and lower powered motherboard. Cyrix was trying to cash in on lower powered CPU's. This was the jelly to VIA's peanut butter. Now the two have come together and the combination has produced a line of mini masterpieces. The unit under review today will be the VIA EPIA M10000. I would like to thank Directron for supplying me with the EPIA M10000.

About the Company

VIA EPIA Mainboards enable a new vision for the digital lifestyle, boasting low power consumption and rich integration on ultra compact form factors. Aimed at driving fast-emerging markets for smart connected devices, from stylish digital entertainment systems and feature-rich commercial embedded devices to mobile applications such as robotics and telematics, VIA mainboards provide the ultimate platform for systems where size, low profile and power efficiency can be combined with a rich entertainment experience.

The tiny form factors of VIA mainboards are designed to inspire system innovation, with VIA Mini-ITX mainboards measuring 17cm x 17cm and VIA Nano-ITX mainboards only 12cm x 12cm. All VIA mainboards are based on the industry-standard x86 architecture and feature a complete platform of VIA silicon, including an embedded VIA processor, advanced digital media core logic chipset, and a host of connectivity, multimedia and storage options, and are compatible with leading operating systems.
