This "packaging" section is just something we here at VH like to throw in to give you an idea on the care and thought that goes into the retail boxes of the products. Typically it's very boring I know, especially with power supplies. However not-so-much this time.

Often when you open a power supply box, you can see the power supply wrapped in some kind of bag along with a huge nest of tightly tied together cables protruding from the back of the power supply. Not usually a pretty sight.

However when I opened the retail box on this Ultra X2 power supply, I thought I was seeing things when I seen the exact same high quality cabling rundown graphic that is on the outside of the box. I honestly thought there was a box-in-a-box. Well, there is a box-in-a-box, but it's only a small box on top with ALL the cables inside of it.

Once I removed that cabling box, there was another nice surprise. The X2 Power supply was not just lying at the bottom in a bag, it was completely protected using soft foam. This is certainly the best protected, and boxed power supply I have received to date.

After removing the soft foam protection, and the bag from the X2 power supply, it was impossible not to notice the mirror titanium finish and large 120mm fan. Even more stare-worthy was the fact that not a single cable was protruding from the PSU box.

A Closer Look:

Now, I've reviewed a ton of modular power supplies and handled even more of them. It's amazing the different types of modular setups there are out there in the market. What I mean by the "setups" is the way that the cables connect to the power supply main body, and also the size and orientation of the plugs, or connections, themselves.

Some modular systems use connections that are all the same exact size to connect to the main body. I know many people do not favor this system because of the chance to plug the wrong connection into the wrong connection (o_0). Some don't like that setup just because it doesn't look as professional as the "true" connections.

Ultra went the extra step in this department in using all the exact sized connections for ALL the modular cabling system. Meaning, the dual 6-pin PCI-e modular cables each have their very own 6-pin connection on the body. Same goes for the 4-pin 12v ATX connection, the 4-pin molex connections, and so on. Take a look..
