A Closer Look:
Well enough already with all of the stats right? I know, I know, you want to see the goods! Let's get on to seeing what you will actually get when you buy this unit. The retail box for the X-Finity power supply is actually one of the nicer ones I've seen in a long time. It's very graphic laden and has pretty much ALL the information you could want to know about what's inside the box and what you just bought with your hard earned money. Really, there's nothing like a fancy box to help dilute the empty pocket syndrome ;) Oh yes, the retail box was also wrapped in cellophane to ensure a dust free product for the consumer. It's small touches like that from Ultra to let you know they at least care about delivering a quality product. Inside the box you'll be welcomed to the standard affair of user manual, registration card, power supply and power cord. Speaking of registration card, let it be noted that with this power supply you'll be entitled to the LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY offered by Ultra so it's my recommendation to be sure to register this product. Next we take the X-Finity 500w power supply out of it's shell and into the open for some nudie shots. This particular unit (model# ULT31845) is technically designated as "black", however it's really a "mirrored black" and therefore EXTREMELY difficult to photograph. It seems to completely absorb every variation of light I could throw at it short of climbing a mountain at high noon on a cloudless day to get as close to the sun as I could....you get the idea. You may have noticed by now that this power supply, unlike the current market trend, does NOT utilize a modular cabling system. Why? Well, why not? Wouldn't a fully connected, non-modular cable offer better stability and assurance that it won't "fall off"? Sure. Wouldn't a fully connected, non-modular cable offer better stability because it has less interference in the lines? Most likely, it only makes sense. Think of it as the same reason most big time gamers use hard-wired mice and not wireless....less chance of interference (or lag in their situation). Again, you get the idea. I certainly can not fault Ultra for using non-modular cables. Especially since they're special in other ways...read on.
