Introduction:
Welcome to the new age of the keyboard. Now, when you go to the LAN parties you don't only see peoples case's modified, you also see their peripherals. This keyboard is just one of those devices that you are liable to see along the way. This is the SunbeamTech Acrylic Lite-Up Slim Keyboard sponsored by CrazyPC. When I received this keyboard it was inside a larger brown box filled with Styrofoam peanuts. It was protected very well which is a plus for CrazyPC. When Opening up the box, I noticed that not only was the keyboard PS2, but it also came with a diskette. I am use to using USB keyboards, but going back to a PS/2 is not a problem in my book, in fact; most people I know prefer PS/2 over USB. Next, the diskette, well, this does me absolutely nothing as I no longer have a floppy drive in my computer, but then again, if your operating Windows XP, you don’t need the disk, I am not sure if you need it for previous versions. Next, we are going to take a look at using this keyboard and how it relates to your typical board that most people use.
Overview: The SunbeamTech Acrylic Lite-Up Slim Keyboard when removed from the original packing box was sitting in its own little box, much like you would find one on a retailers self. This keyboard represents more of a typical laptop keyboard when you take a closer look at it. The function buttons have been shrunken down a little bit, and the rest of the buttons are lower to the keyboard, this is to help out with the ultra thin design. This keyboard has 104 keys. The Auxiliary LED's for Num lock, Scroll Lock, and Cap Locks are switched out from the standard green to an extremely bright blue. This LED does not catch your eye while gaming or typing, but if you look straight at it from above it will almost feel like you are starring into the sun.
Features:
Includes an ON/OFF button for the keyboard light! Multi-media Hot Keys for internet, email, sound, calculator and more Numerical keypad Slim ergonomic design Fully compatible with PS/2 Works with: Windows 95/98/2000/XP/NT/ME Lighting is suited for dim-light to no-light applications
Installation: All that was needed was to plug and play, the keyboard did come with a diskette, but I do not use a floppy and it was not labeled at all. Use: Well, I have been using the keyboard for a day now and so far I like it a lot better then the standard issue. The lighting effect is a big plus for me; I like every aspect of my system to look good, not just the case :). At first I was having a little bit of trouble with the keys since they sit down more like a laptop, but you get use to that and its just like everything else. I tested this laptop on gaming just to see how the double tap feature played out and if it had a good response time. I have no complaints at all; I played just as if I were using a standard keyboard. The function keys being smaller is not really a problem for me, I occasionally use them in-game for screenshots or to see the player board. This keyboard is just like any other, just with a few more bells and whistles, including across the top of the keyboard you will find shortcut keys for practically anything you will need. Each button is silver and set in a vertical rectangular design. There are keys for your browser, email, multimedia player and sound control, calculator, sleep mode, and my computer. Conclusion: The SunbeamTech keyboard is a great addition to the gamer’s pc. This is a good way to out-do your friends at a LAN or when they come over to drool over your pimped out rig. Sunbeam gets the nod for their light-up feature as well as their compressed slim design. If you are someone who does not like the features of a laptop keyboard then I would not advise you to pick this thing up, but if your not, then this is the keyboard for you. It’s a great thing when you’re playing a game around 2am and look down and see every key with the lights in the house off. For a gamer, I would recommend this keyboard to anyone. I am going to continue using this keyboard in place of my mounds of other versions of keyboards. I would like to give a special thanks to CrazyPC for their review sample. CrazyPC also has plenty of other modifications for sale ranging from fans, to chipset coolers, to lights, as well as water cooling, window kits, and much much more. Thank you again for reading this review and I hope you enjoyed it.
