 StreetGlow HotWirez Review

Introduction

Well, as you can see I really wanted this one to come out before Christmas. Been super busy with reviews, modding, overclocking, and the family. Never the less, here is my review of StreetGlow's latest toy, the Hott Wirez Kit and the PC Connector Kit. Big thanks to Adam over at StreetGlow for these little goodies. This isn't the first time that these types of neon string have been reviewed on Virtual-Hideout. The same goes for the PC Connector Kit, as DiceMan had reviewed this previously. This time I am going to spend more time showing you the Hott Wirez over the PC Connector Kit. I will however show you what I thought about the kit. Lets get started shall we?

Contents

Not much really to either one of the kits. Both packaged in the typical StreetGlow packaging which makes it easy to hang on a store rack. I don't know about you, but I have be using StreetGlow products for at least 10 years easily. Back when I was in high school, when the Neons first hit it big in the cars, I of course, had a the neons under the car, in the car, around the car. I remember my 386 computer back then too. It sure as hell didn't have any neons in nor around it. Well now we do. Here is what you can expect when you open up the box from StreetGlow after purchasing the kits.

Here you see the contents inside the packaging and out of the packaging. Pretty pimp !!!

Left to Right: Here you see the Hott Wirez Neon String, the connector, inverter, and the glue that comes with it.

Another shot of the glue with the warning. Do I need to post the warning for you still?

WARNING: If you do anything that the warning label showed in the above picture does, then you need to seek Psychological help and not medical attention. Now if you do bond your fingers together, and lord knows we have all done this, then just yank them apart and pray you do not loose to much skin. ;p

Here is a few shots of the PC Connector Kit.

Lets see what it can do

Here are just a few picks that I took while it was all lit up and lookin' cool. I must say that I am very impressed with the Hott Wirez Neon String. This has got to be some of the most fun modding stuff to play with. I had a blast.

Just trying to show off how bright it is. It isn't as bright as a neon, but would be close to a medium brightness blue led.

Sorry for such an ugly non artistic exploit of the infamous VH. Sorry Wolfie ;p

Now some of you may want to know if this would work inside your case to make the whole inside glow. It might do a little bit, but no much at all. Hott Wirez is perfect for those tight spaces such as your keyboard, bottom of cases (outside. UFO mod), around heat sinks, and where ever else you may stick it. Just don't tell me where you did stick it ;p I decided to do the mod that Thor had shown many moons ago with his EL Cable and his keyboard. I will show you just a before and after picture I think for this one.

Before & After

Once I get my reviews out of the way, I will show you exactly how I went about doing this mod. It was more time consuming and a pain in the rear for this keyboard.

Conclusion

After seeing a lot of reviews, and reading through each one on the EL Cable, I knew right then I wanted some of this stuff. Adam from StreetGlow contacted me on IRC and asked if I would be interested in doing a review for him on this. Of course I said ya. It was almost like he knew that I was interested in the neon string. He shipped it straight from New Jersey, so at first I was worried. Worried why? Because that is where all the damn anthrax is coming from. Probably Adam too. Just kidding. I hope ;p No, I got the package in perfect order and not a trace of any white powder. Lets take a look at what I consider the pro's and con's for the Hott Wirez Neon String and the PC Connector Kit.

Hott Wirez Pro's

  • Flexibility
  • Brightness considering its size and flexibility
  • Overall Quality
  • Ease of use and installation

Hott Wirez Con's

  • Price

PC Connector Kit Pro's

  • Quality
  • Ease of use
  • Concept
  • Price

PC Connector Kit Con's

  • Controls 4 devices or neons with 1 switch

Hott Wirez and the EL Cable to me are a little steep in price for the amount of glow. But at the same time, the flexibility and size almost make up that difference in price. But not to worry. StreetGlow contacted me with a code to give all of you that read this a DISCOUNT !!! That's right, StreetGlow wants to give you all an appreciation discount. You can't beat that now. How much of a discount. HOLY COW...OMG...YOU ARE GOING TO BE SURPRISED...WOW@!@ How about 5%? No? Not good enough is it. Ya, even StreetGlow gives better then sn1per does. How about 25%? You better say yes, because you aren't going to find it any better. Especially coming straight from the manufacturer. So this 25% turns my con into a pro I guess. Oh, how do you get the 25% off? Easy, when you order make sure you enter the code or let them know the code. The code is "vth01" without the quotes, just the 3 letters and the 2 numbers.

OK, I bet you want to know if I really like this stuff or what. Well, I liked both items very much. I like the PC Connector Kit since I will be using 4 neons/cold cathodes in my case. I never want to just turn one on, I want them all to turn on at the same time. The Hott Wirez is some of the pimpest shiznit I have seen. I was impressed with the performance of the Hott Wirez. The one thing I was stoked about bit time was the inverter for the Hott Wirez. From what I have read concerning the EL Cable, the inverter is noisy. Well, there is a slight high pitched tone coming from the inverter on the Hott Wirez kit, but nothing you can hear from a few feet. If the inverter is in your case, you will never hear it. If it is around the keyboard area, room noise will usually make it unhearable. I really like both kits a lot. As a matter of fact, my mom thought the Hott Wirez was some bad a$$ stuff. She wants about 15' of the green now to put in her Jeep. I swear, I will have my mom modding soon. Her case is modded, she has one of my green cold cathodes in her 10" bandpass subwoofer box in the Jeep. Now, to really let you know how good this stuff is. My dad even liked it. Now if he likes it, then it has to be some cool stuff. He usually calls all of my case modding stuff gay. HAHA. Not this time.

Well, that is it from my bunker here in Chicago. I would like to thank StreetGlow for sending me the Hott Wirez Kit and the PC Connector Kit to review. This kit was a lot of fun and turned out pretty darn good. If you all are interested in seeing my keyboard mod all the way through, make sure you send me an E-mail letting me know. Now pertaining to the review, if you have any questions and/or comments, please feel free to E-mail me or go to the review in the forums. Thank you.
