The Eclipse impressed me because it is dedicated to strict functionality with no quirky or useless features. It is all business on the front end with a nice surprise to follow up with. The feet are by far the most stable design I have seen on any keyboard - and the entire unit is very well put together. I would feel comfortable throwing this keyboard in a bag for a LAN without fear of it breaking, although you definitely could not do this with the wrist rest attached. The wrist rest becomes quite floppy if the unit is held in midair and I suspect the rest might become damaged if it was roughly transported when attached.

Here you can see the three positions of the wrist rest. I personally found the keyboard to be most comfortable when using the feet and wrist rest fully closed. Second to that I preferred the unit flat with no wrist rest.

Next up is the illumination feature of the Eclipse - its signature feature being one of the first mainstream boards to offer this option.

I will admit I was somewhat disappointed by the quality of the backlighting. While the key illumination was virtually flawless and the backlighting was impressively and elegantly done, I feel that it has room for improvement. The backlighting was a little "patchy" and did not have the same consistency across the board - no pun intended.

I am admittedly biased on this point, however, as I created one of the very first EL boards years ago and achieved excellent results. EL wire has a certain advantage over LED lighting but I still think the lighting could be improved.

I hear that the Saitek "Gaming Keyboard" had excellent backlighting without any grey areas, but I have not seen this for myself. Saitek also provides a high, low, and off button which is truly invaluable. I sleep near my computer and a blue room is simply not an option during sleeping hours.
