Introduction Lately we've been seeing sleeving as a more and more common alternative to split loom and spiral wrap for cable organization. Sleeving your power supply is a bit more complicated than simply slipping some split loom on however, as demonstrated by Diceman back in a January guide seen here. Even still there were some hassles and downsides... Performance-PCs, bringing their operations online in October, is now offering to do your dirty work for you. They are doing each power supply to order with a huge variety of colors and power supplies to chose from. They've asked me to take a look at one of their PSUs and I couldn't resist, I gave them my colors and sure enough here it is... My patience is running thin, perhaps we should do this some other time, I have a tricked out PSU to tend to... The Custom Sleeve Job I could dedicate a page for all of the color options, fortunately you can find all that here. You can choose the colors of the regular sleeving, motherboard cable sleeving, and heatshrink wrap. You may also chose from a large variety of PSUs, Enermax, Antec, Raidmax, Vantec, Codegen, and Powmax to name a few. If you don't feel like buying a new PSU just for the sleeve job, you may supply your own PSU at a significantly less charge. As soon as I removed this thing from its box, I was extra cautious to not get drool on it, there were a couple of close calls though. Is that not just beautiful or what? The colors I chose were Silver for the regular sleeving, Blue for the mobo cable sleeving, and white for the heatshrink wrap. I wasn't sure if it was going to turn out that great, but it ended up much, much better than I expected, and apparently better than they expected as well as they have now added it as pre-made color combo named "Silverado," found here. Above is the sleeved motherboard cable, there's not a whole lot to say... just by looking at it you can notice the great quality of this product. The only real fear I had is that the sleeving might slip out of the heatshrink, but I don't think it would slip even if I tried to make it. This product is truly solid all the way around. Unfortunately as you can see, there is always that elusive 1/4" of wire that you can never really cover; it'll always be there. This was also a potential problem, I could just see me going to adjust one of the cables, tugging on it a little, and have the sleeving slip out of the PSU. After dealing with so many problems you learn to predict them, fortunately my predictions never came true, and again, even if I tried, I probably still couldn't make the sleeving slip out of the PSU. Once again, I apologize, but I had to do it. And, once again, I strongly recommend never opening your PSU as it has and can result in injury and even death, so be safe... Now, this time I did discover two things. First, they prevent the sleeves from slipping by putting a zip tie on there, tight. Second, I found that the Blue LED fan they added in for me had a sleeve job done on it as well. That's just cool, heh. As you can see, it makes a bit of a difference. The before picture is with a PCToys Power Maxx 520W, after is with the custom sleeved PSU from Performance-PCs. The pictures pretty much speak for themselves. The PSU looks good by itself, but it also goes great with my case and matches my color scheme very well. Conclusion Rarely do we get a product here that's just damn near perfect. Well, I must say that this product is. This product was beyond my greatest expectations; it looks great, it's high quality, it's fully customized, and it's effective. There's not much else to say, except that this is one kickass product. The price may seem somewhat steep, but I really believe it's well worth it. Performance-PCs really hit a home run here, and even better, it's not something mass produced and offered by 20 different brand names; this is completely custom, hand made to your specs by the guys at Performance-PCs... This product is truly a winner. I'd really like to thank Performance-PCs for providing this PSU for review, for more information and to order a custom sleeved PSU, go here.
