FRAPS:

Fraps was used for Doom3, Far Cry and Quake4. All of the games were the demo versions. Each of these games max out at 60fps. With my current setup, the 60fps was achieved 90%+ of the time during game play. Except when playing the Far Cry Demo, when the frame rate was around 50fps.

43 FPS

57 FPS

During the testing faze I didn't experience any problems. None of the games froze or locked up. While running the other benches, no problems arose. None of the applications crashed and no faults were found.

Conclusion:

For a video card that won't break the bank, this one should fill the needs of most users out there. All the demos I played ran excellently. Colin McRae Rally 2005 was bundled with the card and it ran flawlessly, along with a few other games I tried.

ATI is pushing the x1000 series of cards for its Shader capability, which is great, but doesn't mention much about other kinds of games. As newer games are developed, the makers are saying that they will be more Shader dependent. Of course, that would lead us to believe that the x1000 series of cards are the way to go. Only time will answer that question.

But as for the games of today and yesterday, the MSI x1600PRO will get the job done for under $150 at Directron.com.
