Introduction: Ahhh!! Lian Li... the everlasting gob stopper of PC enclosures. We hold these cases in high regard due to their high quality construction and features. Lian Li is releasing a brand new server case, aluminum of course. The new model for release is the PC-S80, which was sent to me for review by Hampton Technologies and available from Performance-PCs.com. The expected release date is April 26, 2006, so by the time you read this the case will be available. Outside Shell:
The Lian Li PC-S80 comes in two colors, silver and black. The color I received for review was the black model (Lian Li PC-S80B). The exterior is extremely smooth and free from clutter, with nice, tight lines around the side panels and door. The door is where I'm going to start my tour. {:-Þ The door consists of an inner and outer panel, just like a hollow core door in your home. This give a solid feel to the door. Around the edges of the door on the inside is what looks a lot like weather stripping. This foam strip around the inside perimeter is to help with sound dampening. The hinges are pins at the top and bottom that lock the door into place and give a smooth action when opening and closing. The door latch is a ball and socket setup. A ball bearing is in a housing with a spring underneath to keep the ball in place, and the socket is on the main case body. When closing the door the ball is depressed, and when the door is fully closed the spring pushes the ball into the socket, latching the door closed. This has a very nice feel to it, and the sound of it locking into place gives confidence that the door is truly latched. The front of the door has no markings on it other than a silver aluminum strip down the middle and the Lian Li name written on the bottom like an artist's signature. The last thing on just the door is the key lock. The lock is a barrel type lock which makes it harder to pick and is made of all metal construction - no plastic parts. WHEW! All this on just the door! I can't wait to write about the rest.
