Looking inside we see a large pair of gold colored heatsinks. A fairly clean PCB and a large "Silence" 120mm intake fan.

Test Bench:

  • HSPC Tech Station Ver. 2

  • Asus P4B266-C

  • P4 1.8ghz @ 2.4ghz

  • 512mb Corsair C2

  • Asus Ti4600

  • 40gb 7200rpm Maxtor Hdd

  • 1 optical drive

  • 1 floppy drive

Voltage Stabilty:

Enermax Liberty 620w

Voltage Results Idle Load
12v 11.98 12.03
5v 5.02 5.06

 3.3v

3.32 3.33

The Voltage stability was very good on this unit fluctuating very little. No power supply is going to sit exactly on the specified voltages, it just doesn't happen. But what you don't want to see if a power supply dropping a half volt or more under stress, or fluctuating while sitting idle.

This Enermax, with it's single 120mm intake fan, was also near silent during testing. Much like the Seasonic, I had to literally stick my head down by the power supply in an attempt to hear it at all.

This unit can be considered "Rock Solid" by today's standards.

Efficiency Results:

Testing the voltage stability on a power supply is one thing, testing the efficiency of all that power is another. Voltages is most important to your hardware while efficiency is most important to your wallet over time. Electricity isn't free, so to save it, or at least use it most wisely is important too.

I'm going to be testing this Liberty using my new Seasonic Power Angel and 120w psu load tester. It should give us a real good look at how this Enermax uses it's power.

Let's take a look at the Enermax "Liberty" 620w Power Supply stacked up against a couple other power supplies in efficiency ratings. Ratings in red are the best.

  Enermax 620w Seasonic 430w Antec 480w
120v
Reading from wall
outlet
121.8 122.7 122.5
Amperes 1.41 1.39 2.26
Watts 170w 170w 190w
Volt-Amps 172 171 277
Hertz 59.9 59.9 59.9
Power Factor 0.99% 0.98% 0.68%

I must say I was extremely surprised, and impressed at the near perfect Power efficiency (PFC) of the Enermax "Liberty" 620w Power Supply. The Seasonic 430w was pretty much the benchmark for efficiency and I didn't expect something to come along so quickly and best it.

Conclusion:

I can thoroughly recommend this power supply. It has good looks, strong voltages and a great cabling system. The sleeving is very nice and doesn't look like every other power supply. Dual 12v rails, dual native PCI-e Cables, and the very unique, and handy, E-Ternity cable setup make this a real winner.

Add to this the liberty's excellent efficiency ratings (99%!) and that's enough to earn the Enermax "Liberty" 620w Power Supply an editors choice award!
