Introduction
Today at Virtual Hideout, we take a look at the infamous full tower case from AOpen, the HX08. Aopen is a division of Acer Group, the company that brings to us the Aspire line of home and corporate PCs. AOpen has been manufacturing computers hardwares mainly for the OEM market, like motherboards, CD-ROM Drives and PC Chassis.

"Why a full tower case?" you ask. Well for one, they provide excellent cooling capabilites for the overclockers out there and lots of space for you to work in. And some loved it for the brag factor they provide when you have friends over to your house!! And the HX08 is one damn fine example for that!!

As usual, lets take a look at the case specs first, direct from AOpen;

Key Features
  • ATX/Baby-AT/microATX/Full AT housing
  • High expansion capacity with 7 slots and 13 drive bays
  • Bend-in edges ensure safe assembly and installation
  • High quality 1mm thick steel
  • Compact design saves space
  • Complies with DoC, and CE regulations (with AOpen MBs)
  • Equipped with 300W ATX (ball bearing fan in US) high efficiency switching power supply
  • Optional all-in-one carton has room for K/B, mouse, S/W and accessories
Specifications
  • Housing Material : Metal
  • Housing Type : Full Tower
  • Main Board Size : ATX/Baby-AT/microATX/Full AT
  • Disk Drive Bays : 5.25"x5/0, 3.5"x1/7 (external/internal)
  • Dimensions : 16.54"(D)x7.80"(W)x23.23"(H)
  • Power Supply : 300W ATX (ball bearing fan in US), UL/CSA/CE/VDE/S/D/N /FI/FCC DoC Certified
  • Ventilation : Air Vents with Optional 2nd DC fans
  • FCC, CE & Novell : Ready
  • Net Weight : 28.60 lbs.
    Gross Weight : 31.90 lbs.
    Volume : 3.1 Cu. ft.
  • Certification : Novell certification with AOpen motherboard

Standing at a height of 23" with feet installed , this case is pretty huge, and heavy too! It has 5 5.25" external drive bays and a single external 3.5" bay for your floppy drive. It also has 7 internal 3.5" drive bays for mounting your HDDs. That's a total of 13 drive bays for you! I don't think you'll ever run out of space for your drives installation here!

The front bezel design of the HX08 is nothing amazing, nor is it boring. It also comes with AOpen 300Watts "Noise Killer" PSU. I'm not sure what that means, but the PSU is very quiet during operation. At the bottom, you will find some holes for the base feet attachment to provide for more stability.

The "Power" button is located at the top, next to the 3.5" bay. Just big enough for all finger sizes. The "Reset" button and the HDD and POWER LED's are located below the last 5.25" drive bay. No complains there either.
