Introduction: Zalman is certainly not a newcomer when it comes to quality CPU, GPU, and quiet cooling. They've been doing it for years and have become a force to be reckoned with. To stay at the top of their game, Zalman realized a need for a quality HTPC chassis in their lineup and took action. However they didn't do what most manufacturers would have done and create an average chassis with lots of bling to cover up the inadequacies. Instead they came out swinging with a high end HTPC enclosure called the HD160 HTPC Enclosure. And when I say "high-end", I mean it. The price tag alone speaks volumes (US$299). The new HD160 HTPC Enclosure will be launching about the time you read this, so if you're in the market for a high class, high end HTPC Enclosure, come along as I show you some of the things this enclosure can offer you. As a bonus to the readers, and myself, Zalman sent along their recommended accessories for the HD160, otherwise known as the new ZM460-APS 460w PSU, and their now famous CNPS9500-LED CPU cooler. These two units used in conjunction with the HD160 HTPC Enclosure make for a great combination. More on that later... Zalman also sent me their newest VGA cooler, the VF-900, which I will be reviewing shortly. It's another "looker" and I except great things from it. You can find out more about it right now on Zalman's website. HD160 Specifications:
A Closer Look:
The entire shell of the HD160 is machined precision aluminum and it's dripping with quality. Every edge and corner were textbook perfection. Four quality feet corner the bottom of the chassis for a very stable rooting. One feature that I personally enjoyed seeing was the dual rear 80mm exhaust fans with chrome grills. No cheesy factory steel stamping here. Well done. The only lackluster feature I found on the exterior was the large volume knob. It didn't feel up to the standards set by the rest of the chassis. It felt a bit wobbly. However many of you may never even use it.
