Introduction:
In my previous dealing with Thecus, I've had nothing but good experiences with them. This is the third product I've had the chance to review from Thecus. Both the N5200 and N5200 Pro were products for very high end needs, with a price to match. On the other extreme, they have the N299. Reading their product description, as well as speaking directly with Thecus, they intend the N299 for a completely different market. They put the N299 in their "Junior series" section of their website, and the features are more centered around multimedia rather than multi-user environments. The basic descriptions may point towards a low end unit, but looking at the detailed specs make it look like it should still be a good performer.
