Efficiency Testing: Efficiency testing was done using my trusty Seasonic power angel. It will test the Power Factor of this unit. What that means is it will tell us exactly how much of the power drawn from your wall socket is actually being used. The higher the percentage of the PFC, the better. Let's take a look at the whole scope of recent power supply reviews. Efficiency Test Results:
The results of the Tagan TurboJet 1100w were slightly higher than normal on the misc stats, but the most important stat; power factor, this power supply rates at the top at 0.99%. Utilizing the newest technology in efficient power consumption, it's hard to ignore the stats compared to some of the other popular power supplies in the market. If you're like me and running at least one computer 24hrs a day/7days a week, you will seriously want to get a highly efficient power supply as soon as possible. Not only do they save you money in the long run, they also run more efficiently which means they run cleaner. That should equate to a nice long life also. Conclusion: What can I say about an 1100w Quad SLI power supply when I don't even have Quad SLI? Or even SLI at this particular moment? (it's incoming). Well I can't say much for it's ability to handle 1100w for extended gaming sessions. However I can tell you that if you're running Quad SLI, you NEED a beast of a power supply like this Tagan TurboJet 1100w. I also don't think plugging in just one more GFX card is even going to break a sweat on this thing. I'd need a few more (taking donations!). It's certainly built exceptionally well including the biggest heatsinks I've seen on a power supply inside. I'm not crazy about the dual 80mm fan setup as opposed to a nice big 120mm or 140mm setup. The dual 80mm fans were quite enough though. I didn't notice any noise coming from the unit that was distinguishable from the rest of my hardware. I'm still waiting for more bling-worthy Quad SLI power supplies and I'm quite surprised they aren't the majority of the market in this segment. Think about it...who needs a Quad SLI power supply? What market is this power supply targeted at? Hardcore Gamers! Well most hardcore Gamers have either highly modified PC's, or at least tons of store bought lighting like LED fans, or UV Cables, Cold cathodes, etc. Why wouldn't you gear your big Quad SLI power supplies a little more towards that approach? Now I know power delivery is the most important factor here, but it doesn't mean you can't have both. The Tagan TurboJet 1100w is not much, if any, larger than a standard ATX power supply so fitting into your mid tower or above chassis shouldn't be a problem at all. It does not have an extra long body like some power supplies. I personally think this power supply is pretty plain looking, but that's just my opinion. And with all those cables hard-wired to the body, it's quite a handful (and heavy!) while installing, not to mention a rats nest to organize. However that's to be expected. Most companies will shy away from going modular cabling on such a high output power supply for both cost issues and voltage stream concerns. If I have a badass Quad SLI setup, this Tagan would certainly be on my short list of power supplies to look at for it's quality build and exceptionally efficiency rating. Also remember it's not an extended body power supply, so it will fit where some other larger ones will not. It also has the best shielded PCI-e cables I've seen (4 of them!) and that's another important feature to look for when you're drawing that kind of power. I'd like to thank Tagan for introducing me to this monster. After checking out this product, I haven't been given any reason not to recommend this unit. If you're running, or thinking of running, QUAD SLI, then take a good look at this Tagan TurboJet 1100w power supply. It's got the power, quality, and efficiency to help you get your game on. It also comes with a 3-yr warranty. After some online searching, I found this product at newegg.com for a selling price of just $399. That's actually quite a bit lower than I thought it would be. It's good to see Quad SLI power supply prices dropping now that more competition is hitting the market. I remember the first one was like $700 or more. If you don't quite need the 1100w model, Tagan also offers a 900w model.
