Interior:
To gain access to the interior of the SG03, simply remove the two thumbscrews on the side panel and then slide the panel off. The interior is very simple: just one 5.25" at the top and one 3.5"drive bay that is on a bracket. On the floor of the SG03 are two aluminum trays that hold a single hard drive each. The front of the interior has a single 120mm intake fan that can be moved up or down to adjust the air for the end users needs, or a second fan can be installed. Installation:
Installation can be a bit tricky, but it's not difficult at all. The first thing to do is disassemble the case, and this is done by removing the side panel, FDD bracket, the front bezel, and the hard drive trays. This leaves us with a SG03 shell. Next, grab the motherboard standoffs and screw them into the motherboard tray, and then install the motherboard. Next I installed the optical drive, and HDD tool-less clips are supplied. The clip needs to be pushed on to the HDD and then everything slides into the HDD tray (if you are using a 3.5" device, then now would be time to slap that into the 3.5" bracket.) Owners of large video cards need have no fear - just pass the long card through the front opening in the bezel and plug it in. Now for the PSU, which can be mounted two different ways depending on the type of PSU you own. If you own a PSU with a bottom intake fan, then you can mount the PSU so it draws fresh air in from the side side panel, if not, you'll have it pulling hot air from the motherboard. The temperature today is rather warm and with the case being small you would expect alot of heat buildup, but the front 120mm intake fan helps to keep a steady flow of fresh air blowing across the components, thus keeping the temperature in check. The temps can be even cooler with the addition of a second 120mm fan up front and using a power supply with a bottom intake fan and exhaust fan. This will create a positive pressure within the SG03 and force all the hot air out the back. Conclusion: When SST says redesigned, they mean redesigned. The SG03 is an unique SFF enclosure and does earn the title of being SST's new flagship enclosure. The aluminum construction and dual mini bezel doors with front panel mesh intake really show off the front of the SG03. The hard drive trays also double as heatsinks, and the enclosure brace also doubles as a 3.5" bracket. Brilliant! Some people might complain that the enclosure is cramped, to which I would reply that they can just go out and buy a bigger enclosure. The SG03 is meant to be small and compact, hence the SFF in the title. For its size, the SG03 is a well thought-out and planned enclosure with plenty of room to get the job done on a small scale. I would like to thank SilverStoneTek for sending this item out for VH to review.
