Introduction: About 5 months ago, I reviewed the SilverStone SG01 enclosure, which was a very sleek unit. Now I'm going to be reviewing a newly designed Small Form Factor (SFF) enclosure from SilverStone named the SG03. The new design is in the form of a tower versus the desktop style. This little enclosure has some unique features and hidden talents, from the full front bezel intake to the hidden I/O ports and 3.5" bay. Not to mention that it's aluminum, which makes this enclosure as light as a feather... almost. SST has always produced excellent enclosures, and this looks to be another one they can add to the ranks. About the Company: Founded in the summer of 2003, Silverstone Technology is now a proven leader in the field of aluminum enclosure design and manufacturing. Our expertise in creating functional works of art from ordinary electronics and computer components is widely recognized. Numerous designs and ideas for improving computer enclosures were first created by our talented team of engineers, who are regarded by many as leaders in their respective fields. Today, Silverstone Technology continues to garner attention and awards that reflect our original vision of creating the most advanced and beautiful products available on the market. Specifications:
Packaging:
The SG03 arrived in its retail box with no signs of damage from the shipping company. The front of the box has pictures of the black and silver SG03, while the back and sides have the specifications and features. The enclosure is protected by the softer foam padding. Exterior:
Like always, I start off with the bezel. The SG03 has honeycomb mesh from top to bottom, with a SilverStone name plate in the middle, and the very top has one 5.25" bay. On each side of the mesh panel are small door panels that open to allow access to the mesh panel. Under the left door are the front I/O connections and one 3.5" bay, and under the right door are the power/HDD LED's and rest button. Moving around to the left side panel we also find a mesh panel, this one towards the rear and is in the shape of an isosceles trapezoid.
The rear panel looks different from the standard ATX type of layout. On the SG03, the PSU opening is next to the motherboard rear I/O panel, and has only four lower PCI expansion slots and one up high above the motherboard I/O. The right side panel is just plain with no distinct features. The top of the case has a power button on the top right corner, and something we don't mention much is the underside of an enclosure: on the SG03 this is how you gain access to the HDD. << Back to VH FrontPage | Interior, Installation >>
