Cables:

Attached cables

20/24 pin header

4 and 8pin 12v

Molex cables

SATA cables

FDD adapter

Quad PCI-E

120v power cable

There are plenty of them, which is a major plus. The cables are as follows: One cable with 4 SATA plugs, 2 cables with 2 SATA connections on each cable, 2 cables with 3 molex connections on each cable, 2 cables with 2 molex connections on each cable. This provides the ability to use a total of 8 SATA and 10 Molex plugs. Also included is a pigtail with 2 FDD plugs. The last set of cables are for the PCI-E: included are 2 cables with 2 6pin PCI-E plugs on each cable for a total of 4 PCI-E plugs. Yup, that's right. QUAD SLI READY (700W model only). All the Molex connections have the push tabs for easy removal. All of the cables are sleeved in black nylon mesh, which stiffens up the cables, but they are still pliable enough and hold their shape well. Both ends of the mesh are secured to the wire with heat shrink.

Installation and Testing:

Installing the Seasonic power supply is like installing any other power supply. Slide the power supply into the proper location and use the four supplied screws to secure the power supply to the case. Now for testing. The Seasonic M12-700W will be installed into my main rig, which consists of:

  • ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe

  • AMD AM2 X2 4600+ CPU

  • MSI x1600Pro Graphics Card

  • 2GB OCZ DDR2-8800 RAM

  • 2 SATA Hard drives (120gb/250gb)

  • 2 DVD RW's

  • Several Fans

  • Titan Amanda TEC Cooler

Seasonic Power Angel will be used to read the efficiency of the power supply under load, Prime95 to stress the system, and ASUS PC Probe II to read the idle and load voltages.

Conclusion:

More and more computer components either require more wattage to function or less wattage to operate. It's like the struggle between good and evil. The Seasonic M12-700W is a solid power supply, but is 700W really needed? That is a question you will have to answer for yourself. . If you plan on going to Quad SLI, then by all means get all the wattage you can afford. The 500W and 600W M12's should provide you with all the wattage you'll need in a less demanding system. For the high-end gamer they will love the stability and the Quad SLI Ready feature of the 700W.

Besides the issues mentioned previously, the Seasonic M12 is built well, as Seasonic components typically are, and functions up to par. The issue with the 60mm fan not being able to power down once it spins up is an issue with me. With the price being paid for on this power supply you would expect a separate circuit for the thermally controlled fan. Not it being shared with the 120mm. Even though the 60mm fan is not all that noticeable with other components be used in the system at the same time, its still an issue that I feel should be corrected.

With all that being said, Gamers, Overclockers, and the ever challenged quiet PC'ers out there will love the M12-700W. Rock solid performance and as you can see with the voltage results very little fluctuation under load. If you decide to choose anyone of the M12 series of power supplies from Seasonic you will not be disappointed. I would like to thank Seasonic for sending out the M12-700W for review.
