Instant Message:

No one chats with me :(

AIM, GAIM, MSN, and Yahoo Messenger, just to name a few, all work with this handy little unit. I'm sure every gamer here has started a game and was really getting into a hot and heavy battle, just to have an instant message box popup and close out your game. Yeah, I hate that, too. With the X2040 setup properly, all the IM's will pop up on the little screen and not interfere with the carnage.

Sports Scores:

Sports plugin

With the Pertelian X2040 automatically set up for all major sports, you can gain access to live stats or check the score from a game last week. Plus, with this plugged in the back of the computer at the office and tucked away out of the boss's line of sight, you now cut the risk of being busted with a sports ticker on your monitor screen instead of the TSA reports that should be there.

TeamSpeak:

The TeamSpeak plugin comes preloaded with the Pertelian. TeamSpeak has a feature that when the user is not gaming, the person they are chatting with has a light that pops up next to the name. This can't be seen when gaming, but with the Pertelian running TeamSpeak, the person's name comes across the screen, so now you can have a name with a voice.

Email:

Email plugin

Hotmail, Gmail, and any other email client can be configured into the Pertelian X2040. Input a name for the email, then the server information along with the user name and password, and a few simple keyboard clicks lets you tab through the different email accounts you may have.

Music:

Winamp Data

Audio Controls

The Pertelian X2040 automatically works with Windows Media Player, Winamp, and iTunes, providing Play/Pause/Stop, Next track, and a feature called UltraSeek. UltraSeek allows you to passively and efficiently scan through a music library. Some other plugins used in conjunction with the music feature are the Audio Volume plugin and a Search by Song feature.

Stocks Ticker:

United States Steel

For the business minded computer guru, the Stock Ticker feature will hands down be a benefit in keeping tracks of their stocks. Simply input the stock symbols you want to monitor, and stay away from open windows if your stocks are doing poorly.

News Feeds:

Fox News Feed

RSS Feeds, or Really Simple Syndication. RSS is an XML-based format for easily sharing news headlines and summaries for use in your favorite news readers and Web logs (blogs). The feeds include links back to the Site for the full article, and they update automatically. This doesn't limit itself to just news sites like FOX or CNN news, but any site that uses RSS, like some gaming sites, can be used to get updates and stats. To see RSS feeds, go to the RSS setup screen and add the sites you want to view. To find RSS feeds, I used Google to search for them.

Weather:

Local Weather

The weather feature is one of my favorite so far, and that's because I'm a weather buff and trained SkyWarn Weather Spotter in my county. Worldwide Weather is possible by simply inputting a US zip code or the name of a City, and the current temps will be displayed along with current conditions and a 10 day forecast.

So Much More:

I can go on and on about how many different plugins can be used on the Pertelian, but that would leave me writing a 20 page review and that's not going to happen. The best way to get the full picture is head on over to the forums at the Pertelian website. They have answers to a lot of questions you may have, as well as a lot of information on proper setups of some plugins and information on plugins they are creating.

Clock

Forums

IRC

eBay

No Memo

Memo

Some stuff I didn't get to was the IRC chat, eBay monitor, Memo, Clock, Forum monitor, and about 20 other plugins on the Pertelian website for download.

Conclusion:

Well, what can I say in this conclusion that hasn't been said above? The possibilities are endless, and being able to create your own plugins for a specific application is a bonus. I will say one thing: there is a learning curve to using this. There is a lot of CTRL+ALT commands to learn and create as you move along, but once you get that down, flying through the commands is a breeze. A few bugs need to be worked out; l had some minor connection issues to the X2040, and some issues saving my settings after I exit the program or after a reboot. Updates are constantly coming out, so any issue known will eventually be taken care of.

The Pertelian X2040 is a must have for the gamer, the sports junkie, the broker and weather junkie, not to mention all the other addicts out there who could find a perfect use for it, like maybe a Torrent monitor. So, without a doubt, go grab one!! Two!! Heck, how about three or more and have dedicated displays for just about anything you want. I would like to thank the folks from CrazyPC and Pertelian for making this review happen and changing the way I do my work.
