Patriot Extreme PC2-9200 2x1GB Dual Channel Kit
During the last few months, I've had many friends, colleagues, and even family
members calling asking common, yet important questions about top of the line
computer hardware. What is a high frequency memory module? And what are they
for? Those two questions are among the more important questions that are around
the "inter-web". Some other questions as to whether HFM are worth the money and
are they better than regular memory modules also have been asked and debated.
We've all seen memory kits that operate in a wide range of frequencies from
800MHz all the way up to 1300MHz seen in some of the PC2-9200 and PC2-10000
memory kits. To answer those questions you have to break it down based on the
user.
The average PC user is concerned with managing emails, pictures, audio, browsing
the internet, office use, and maybe the occasional game. Nothing too difficult
base on mainstream hardware standards. They typically could care less about the
name, details, or what kind of memory they install in their system as long as it
works. They are often content with what is on sale or the best bargain when
ordering memory for their system. And in a nutshell, this is just fine since the
rest of their system often doesn't have the need for faster, more extreme memory
modules. There system works perfectly fine with basic memory.
Gamers whether typical or hardcore have always wanted the better memory kits
that give them the best frame rate performance and stability. Much of their
system uses more mainstream components. The normal gamers will buy most any
memory kit with better timings which tend come a little flashier as well. As a
normal gamer crosses the hardcore threshold, they'll be more and more concerned
with very adaptable, stable, low latency memory. A good low latency memory kit
is where they find the best results for obtaining good frame rates and a very
reliable system. Cheap memory kits can't guarantee the best game play results.
This is where the more expensive, low latency memory becomes so important as the
best results comes from the better memory modules. These modules are often
capable of higher frequencies if they feel so inclined to overclock.
Then, there are the extreme enthusiasts. They include the extreme gamers,
overclockers or tweakers, who want the fastest systems using the fastest
components to out score everyone around them. Clearance items, blow out sales,
and average peripherals just won't cut it anymore. The system has to be well
tuned and 100% stable no matter how far they push the components. Overclockers,
or tweakers, are the most demanding of their hardware by far. Not only are they
looking for that overclock title, they are also expecting absolute stability
without failure. Low latency, highly overclockable memory modules are kits of
choice. These top of the line memory modules most often overclock the best with
the lowest timings and have the greatest stability and performance results.
The benefits of buying these high frequency memory kits is that you can expect
the very best memory modules used to build them and they often run at
higher stock frequencies without degrading the memory kit. We've seen some insane overclocks and memory performance from various PC2-7200, PC2-8500, and PC2-9200
memory kits. Patriot Memory is currently working to bring some extreme memory
kits that will definitely peak your interests. In the meantime, one of those
kits happens to be their new
PC2-9200 Extreme Memory Kit. Have a look at this
kit before you go off buying some with fancier heat sinks.

Many of Patriot's memory modules have been shipped to quite a few popular
ETellers and stores like Newegg and Frys Electronics. If you've browsed their
web page, then you probably noticed that they are in to everything that has
anything to do with memory, whether it be PC memory or Compact Flash memory.
After talking with Patriot marketing, it was very evident that they deeply
believe in what they are doing. Patriot was very adamant about their quality,
performance, and value comparing many of their memory modules to anyone else's
on the market. Currently, their PC2-6400 Extreme 4-4-4 Memory modules can be
purchased for under $150.00 and lower. I have tested these modules
also have been tested to 1000MHz when overclocked.

Their
PC2-9200 Memory Kits are finally
on the shelves in larger
numbers and can be purchased for under $260.00 where as comparable memory modules
can be more costly. Part of that cost tends to have something to do with the cost of many other kits
coming with much more expensive RAM sinks. There's no doubt that fancier heat sinks make for a
nice presentation, but they can also add something substantial to the cost of
the memory. I've always been partial to some LEDs or an effect that separates a
brand of RAM from another. It's not that I'm addicted to modding, I just can't
stop!
