Introduction:

Do you remember when RAM cost about a $1.00 a Megabyte? I can recall how volatile RAM prices were rising and falling almost like the daily temperature. The memory industry was still very young and memory quantities were so limited, as well as slow production rates, it remained costly up until we reached the SDRAM era.

Well, fortune shined down upon the memory industry and things began to improve. Factories updated, researched, and kept on building better facilities Double Data Rate (DDR) modules which brings us to the very abundant DDR2 modules. There are some who think that DDR2 is fast on its way out, but this is not the case.

Most vendors are still aggressively pursuing customers in search of DDR2 by upgrading or improving current lines. There are still plenty of really good ICs to go around. And prices are so great, almost anyone can afford a more versatile machine whether for some extreme gaming, computing, or overclocking.

So, what can you do to improve the current DDR2 4-4-4-12 memory kits? How about, improve the kits with better ICs and improve the memory timings by lowering them to 3-4-3-8. Of course, this has only been achieved at the factory with 800MHz DDR2 ICs. Patriot has been the first to bring you 4-4-4-12 2x2GB memory kits, now they are the first to give us some 3-4-3-8 kits. This is good news for straight shooter computer users. Check out the new Patriot 2GB PC2-6400XLK Viper Memory Kit.
