Let's get to 900mhz Already!:

Getting to the rated 900mhz, I had to disable the "SLI-Ready" stuff and do it the old fashion way. I'm a pro at this AMD overclocking stuff now, so a few quick adjustments in the BIOS and poof, I was sitting at 900mhz @ 4-4-3-15 as prescribed.

900mhz @ 4-4-3-15

900mhz @ 4-4-3-15

Once I got it tuned to 900mhz and ran a few quick benches, it was time to run Prime95 and see if it's really able to handle the 900mhz at the described timings. Well after about 12 hours of prime95 torture test, I can call it stable. But is there more to be had? Let's see.....

Does it Overclock?

YES! It sure does overclock! I think I'll cut straight to the chase and bring on the screens.

1000MHz @ 4-4-4-12

1000MHz @ 4-4-4-12

I got this kit all the way to 1000mhz at the only 4-4-4-12! That is really an accomplishment in the DDR2 market today. Is there any more left in this kit? Let's find out!

1080MHz @ 5-5-5-15

1080MHz @ 5-5-5-15

Wow is all I can say. As you can see I had to loosen up the timings to 5-5-5-15, and I also increased the voltage to 2.150v, which is still ridiculously good! Let's get a group shot of settings using the ASUS AiBooster...

1080MHz @ 5-5-5-15 @ 2.150v

I spent an entire week tweaking and stabilizing the OCZ PC2-7200 Platinum XTC memory and although I could get it to boot at 1100MHz, I just couldn't seem to stabilize it. However once I realized I was testing memory rated for "900mhz", I kind of gave up on pursuing the overclock at this point. I mean "WOW". *speechless*

I ran Prime95 for a full 24 hours at the above 1080mhz speeds just because I could hardly believe my eyes. When I started this review, I had 900mhz @ 4-4-3 on my mind and If I could've gotten to 950mhz at those same timings, I would've been happy. However this OCZ PC2-7200 has completely blown me away.

Conclusion:

This will be one of the easiest conclusions I've written in awhile. I mean, what "bad" could I possibly say about this memory? I can't find anything. It looks great and it OVER-performs like crazy. Ok ok, maybe the price. This new OCZ PC2-7200 Platinum XTC memory is currently $319 USD. That's not cheap. However now that we know it's a killer performer and overclocks like a champion, is it really that bad now? I mean honestly, this PC2-7200 memory kit actually surpassed the PC2-8000 that I reviewed recently, at least in my own personal experience. Just to give you an idea, this kit for $319, is actually cheaper than the 800mhz SuperTalent DDR2 and the over $100 cheaper then the Corsair PC8500C5.

I whole heartedly award the OCZ PC2-7200 Platinum XTC memory the Editors Choice Award for it's stunning mirrored XTC heatspreaders and phenomenal overclocking ability. Obtaining 1080mhz out of 900mhz DDR2 today takes some very high quality memory, and OCZ has propelled itself to the apex of the memory market with the help of superb memory kits like this. I've already recommended this kit to many of my friends if that tells you anything. Let's not forget OCZ's lifetime warranty too! What more could you ask for!? Go buy this now!
