A few weeks back, I had the pleasure of working
OCZ's PC2-9200 Flex XLC Dual
Channel 2x1GB Kit. This is currently one of the rare kits on the market that are
able to top 1250MHz when overclocked. Under stock settings, the memory operates
at 1150MHz with 5-5-5 timings using 2.35 volts. The PC2-9200s aren't the most
power hungry modules, but they do tend to heat up just a bit under maximum
frequencies. Water cooled didn't prove to be very beneficial in terms of
overclocking or stability, but it did drop the temperatures down about 15 C at
full load.
None the less, the kit carried the E6600 test system memory benchmarks in to the
8000 MB/s realm with completely flawless stability. It also happens to be one
the current favorites among overclockers from all over. Getting anything above
these frequencies has become a challenge in terms of heat and cost which are
affecting any future designs. There are still a much, much larger number of
people buying memory that is still in the 800MHz range for upgrades and in brand
new systems. Do not fret though, as there will most certainly be something even
faster from OCZ in the future.
In the meantime, OCZ still has some pretty slick memory kits out there. Among
the many Platinum XTC kits, you can occasionally find the PC2-9200 Flex kits.
Not everyone can afford those modules but would like something similar. Thus,
OCZ decided to release the
PC2-6400 Flex XLC
Edition Dual Channel 2x1GB Kit for those
very people. The modules are similar, but come with 800MHz SPD operating at
4-4-4 timings. Read on and see how they compare in performance and stability.
The PC2-6400 Flex modules feature the new OCZ FlexXLC (Xtreme Liquid
Convention) heatsink that delivers superior heat dissipation via a
hybrid copper and aluminm design alterable between passive air or water
cooling.
The PC2-6400 FlexXLC modules are optimized for the latest cutting edge
platforms and will be available in 2GB (2x1024MB) dual channel kits. As
part of OCZ’s line-up of premium memory, the PC2-6400 series is backed
by a Lifetime Warranty and industry-leading technical support.
Harnessing the performance of high speeds, tight timings, and
leading-edge heat dissipation the unparalleled design of the OCZ
PC2-6400 Flex XLC is a complete, all-encompassing solution certain to
set a new standard for recreational enthusiasts.

* The new OCZ FlexXLC (Xtreme Liquid
Convention) heatsink delivers superior heat dissipation via the
integrated hybrid copper and aluminum liquid injection system. The
FlexXLC module was engineered with this unique “flexible” design to give
enthusiasts the unparalleled option to run the modules passively or
water cooled. The concurrent use of both technologies (water-cooling)
promotes maximum heat dissipation and pushes thermal management of
memory modules one step further to keep up with the ever-increasing
frequency demands. FlexXLC modules seamlessly co-migrate with any system
upgrade to liquid cooling.
**OCZ EVP (Extended Voltage Protection) is a feature that allows
performance enthusiasts to use a VDIMM of 2.2V ± 5% without invalidating
their OCZ Lifetime Warranty.
