Here I pop the top so you don't have too! The inside is like many other OCZ units I've seen. The heatsinks are adequate and everything inside is clean and appear to be of high quality.

Looking Great

Here I installed the 780w ModXStream into my dual 8800GTS SLI rig. I had been running the 700w GameXStream in my main Tech Station rig for 24 hours a day for almost a year now without a single hiccup, even when I upgraded it to dual 8800GTS's about 6 months ago. I think that proves that 700w is enough to run dual 8800GT's and an Intel E6600 dual core CPU. However the only thing missing on the 700w GameXStream is the modular cables. Well, Presto! It was time to upgrade the 700w with this new 780w Modular unit. Honestly it looks exactly like it did before but without the cable clutter behind the power supply. Perfect!

As you can see above, by using the Seasonic Power Angel, we can check how efficient the Active PFC is. The 780w ModXStream ranks up there with the efficient modern power supplies although the .93% is the lowest of the group here, it's still nothing to worry about. It's way better than the .60% power supplies of old. Now let's see how it did in my test rig.

Test Rig:

Idle

Load

Well the voltages barely even twitched with the heavy load of running dual prime95 on my rig for hours. No dips, no hiccups, nothing. Just smooth solid power as you'd expect. Judging by how happy I was with the previous OCZ power supply I was using, I expected to enjoy this one and I wasn't disappointed.

Conclusion:

OCZ has done it again; they've made another great power supply to target the modular power supply lovers out there. They did this while keeping with the signature look of the GameXStream series. The bright 120mm blue LED fan looks great and adds a touch of bling to your system without going overboard. It's also provides plenty of cool air for the internals and is very quiet.

The efficiency isn't quite the top of the class, but honestly I wouldn't give it a second though. It's "up in the nineties" and that's good enough for me. The modular cables are of good quality and sleeved in black mesh for good looks.

I have absolutely no problems with recommending this unit to anyone out there looking for a unit in the 700w-800w category. I'm sure I'll be running this unit for 24/7 for the foreseeable future also and I don't expect any issues what-so-ever. OCZ Technology has proven to me that they can build excellent power supplies and I trust them with my main SLI system that runs 24/7!

Thanks to OCZ Technology for making not only another great power supply, but also for sending in the unit and allowing me to show all of you.
