Introduction:

Norco Technologies DS-1000 Storage System

If you think back just over 10 years ago, there really wasn't a lot of content to warrant owning more than a couple storage drives. It wasn't unusual to see a few hundred Gigabytes of storage and maybe a RAID 0 or 1 array here and there. At that time, the fastest storage solution available was using regular RAID or SCSI arrays. SCSI interface was, and still is, just to expensive and limited for the regular users to consider.

Given today's enormous online HD demand, there's one thing that you really need if you plan to succeed at building your media library, or maybe providing that kind of content: Storage. Because of the size and vast quantities of movies, music, and what not out there, it's very easy to fill a Terabyte drive in a matter of days. And this doesn't take in to account of the news group users out there creating even more opportunities for more content. Compared to 10 years ago, things are just crazy.

It's now become more feasible for one to consider upgrading one's storage capabilities by setting up Network Attached Storage (NAS) whether it be a single NAS unit, multiple drive Back Plane, or an actual Storage System like the DS-1000 from Norco Technologies. Granted, Back Planes and Storage Systems are bigger and more expensive than regular NAS options, but you can add a heck of a lot more storage capacity. Imagine all the sports content if your local sports bar decided to connect one of these to their network saving every current or past memorable game. Or something even better, one could keep every HD movie on file to throw up on the big screens.
