Test Results:

Testing consisted of Sisoft Sandra's Memory Bandwidth benchmarks and also hours of hardcore gaming and 12 hour sessions of Prime95. On top of that, the RST Pro2 was used to validate Mushkins rating. I needed 2.3v to stabilize this memory on my test platform. My voltage settings in the BIOS only go to 2.4v realistically (shows 2.45v in BIOS but shows 2.4v in AiSuite)

  • PC2-8500 (DDR2-1066): 5-5-4-12 @ 2.3v (Stable)

  • PC2-8800 (DDR2-1100): 5-5-4-12 @ 2.35v (Stable)

  • PC2-8800 (DDR2-1100): 5-5-5-15 @ 2.3v (Stable)

  • PC2-9200 (DDR2-1152): 5-5-5-15 @ 2.4v (Not Stable)

1066MHz @ 5-5-4-12
5697 MB/s

1100MHz @ 5-5-4-12
5889 MB/s

1100MHz @ 5-5-5-15
5872 MB/s

1152MHz @ 5-5-5-15
6151 MB/s

There is so much talk of reduced latencies and lower timings in DDR2 memory these days, but honestly you wouldn't know the difference unless you're running synthetic benchmarks like those I've shown you here. When you're already producing over 5000 MB/s of bandwidth, you wouldn't notice that 200 MB/s you either gain or lose by adjusting timings every so little.

I was able to get this memory to boot up and run windows just fine at a fantastic 1152MHz, but I could not stabilize it with my current voltage restriction of 2.4-2.45v. Either way it proves this memory still has some headroom to play with.

Conclusion:

Well what can you say about a product that does what it says it'll do? I'd say it works! Mushkins previous highest end DDR2 was rated for PC2-8000 and it looks like it's time to raise the bar to 1066MHz for them. With rated timings of 5-5-4-12, it puts this kit as some of the fastest 1066MHz on the market.

The 'FrostByte' heatspreaders did the job well and didn't get very warm to the touch. I personally prefer something a little more flashy than solid black heatspreaders though. But again, that's just a personal preference.

So review #3 of a Mushkin product goes down in history. Since this ASUS P5B Deluxe has an easy memory divider for 1066Mhz DDR2, it has become my favorite DDR2 speed to review. Why run 800MHz if you can run 1066MHz just as easy right?

I'd like to thank Mushkin for sending in another fine memory kit and I'm honored to be the first to review their fastest memory to date; the XP2-8500. I don't see it listed on their site just yet, but keep checking and I'm sure it'll be on there soon.
