Test Results:

Testing was accomplished using multiple methods including Sisoft sandra, Prime95 and RST Pro2 professional memory tester.

800mhz @ 2.1v
4-5-4-11

900mhz @ 2.1v
5-5-5-15

951mhz @ 2.25v
5-5-5-15

999mhz @ 2.3v
5-5-5-15

I was able to overclock this HP2-6400 kit to a fantastic 999mhz (you can call it 1000mhz) pretty easily by just using simple adjustments that I've learned from years of overclocking. I also tried 1066mhz real quick, but it didn't go. If you spend the time finding the sweet spot on this kit, you might even get more. However you might get less. Overclocking is never guaranteed but this kit surprised me on it's overclocking potential.

Note: All stock speeds & overclocked speeds were confirmed using the RST Pro2 and 12 hour runs of Prime95.

800mhz

900mhz

951mhz

999mhz

Above is just a reference of the CPU-z readings in case you're trying to duplicate my speeds. Be aware of the FSB:DRAM divider settings as they can play havoc on memory timings, especially cpu's with an odd multiplier like my old AM2 3500+ (11x MP).

I also ran FutureMarks PCMark05 at stock speeds and again at overclocked speeds. Of course it's not all memory for the increased scores, it's also due to overclocking my Intel E6400 Core 2 Duo CPU.

  • PCMark05-800mhz-4-5-4-11 = 5922

  • PCMark05-999mhz-5-5-5-15 = 6858

Conclusion:

At a selling price of about $310 for the 2x1GB HP2-6400 memory kit (direct from Mushkin's site), I think the price is fair and in line with other manufacturers, if not a few bucks cheaper. This HP2 kit is less than $20 more than the EM2-6400 kit and it's vastly superior in every way.

The quality of memory used in this particular HP2-6400 kit is evident by the superb overclocking potential. Obtaining 1000mhz from an 800mhz kit is proof these are indeed high performance memory modules. Add to that the good looking blue aluminum "FrostByte" heatspreaders and you've got a potent combination.

The rated speed of 800mhz and timings of 4-5-4-11 @ 2.1v-2.2v is above average and considered low or enhanced latency. I only needed 2.1v to obtain those timings on my test platform and reducing the timings to 5-5-5-15 allowed me to have 900mhz at my disposal without a voltage increase. The rated SPD for this kit is 5-5-5-18 @ 1.8v, so don't worry if you're board won't go up to 2.1v, this kit will still work perfectly fine at defaults.

I'd like to thank Mushkin for allowing Virtual-Hideout to check out its new HP2-6400 DDR2-800 Memory kit. If you like what you see, head over to their site and you can pick up this exact kit for $310 USD right now (at time of posting).
