The Box

Features & Specs

Open Box

From what I've seen of Kingwin's products, they like to had the modified look to their product lines that would interest those looking to add some flash and lights to their system. If anything, they don't seem to have any boring or visually displeasing products. In the case of this PSU, they've gone a little more conservative route adding a little of both the modified flare and contemporary appeal.

Back Angle

The ABT-1000 has a very lightly brushed, silver chassis which helps give it that cleaner appearance. Even the back vented area is nicely fabricated with seemingly larger holes which tend to help move more air easily. Also, dust doesn't quite build up so badly over time. Still, as with any PSU, you should take a bit of canned air to it every couple months to keep things maintained and moving along.

Top Angle

Kingwin chose to add a 150mm blue LED fan inside that helps air move along nicely. Fans this size can generate about 80 CFM pretty efficiently and without much noise if any. The fan pretty much spans the entire width of the chassis side in all directions. There's nothing wrong with a 120mm fan. But, a 150mm is just a nice extra in the features section all enthusiasts can appreciate.

Full Chassis Coverage

The front cable port area has eight military style modular ports covered by light blue little rubber caps. These should be left on when you're not using the port since those inner leads are carrying a current and you don't want anything accidentally grounding them out.

Blue Boots & Cable Ports

You can also see the round acrylic looking rings around the power ports. These light up when the ports are active which are one of the biggest features that give the PSU a modified look. If you don't have anything plugged in using the power, the port remains unlit. This doesn't mean you have to find something to plug in to make it look cool. You'll see them lit up during testing.

Cable Ports Exposed

Looking at the cables, you can just barely see standard wiring underneath with noticeably nicer braiding all around. At one end you get the standard Molex style connectors for the peripherals, while at the other end transitions in to rounded metal connectors with heat shrink wrap. These connectors have a ring bolt that fastens the cable securely to the PSU's power ports. These ports are quite strong and there's no movement in the connectors.

Cable Bundle

Rounded Ring Connectors

The SATA and IDE cables are just about 36" to the very end. That's a pretty nice feature these days especially if you like larger cases. Perhaps, this could become an industry wide feature. No more having to worry about enough cable length.

Connected

Now, the main power cables aren't modular. These are the single most important wires carrying the most volatile and signal sensitive power current. You can't afford to leave performance and reliability left to chance since these feed your system the main current that ensure stability. That's the main reasons for hard wiring them straight to the PSU's circuit boards.

Hardwired Main Power Cables

The most important feature of the Kingwin ABT-1000MA1S 1000 Watt PSU is the amperage. This PSU offers six 12 volt rails. Four of them offer 20 amps, while rails 4 and 5 offer a hefty 35 amps each. That's a lot of power going to the motherboard and peripherals. This can allow you to easily pack a full sized tower with as many hard drives it can hold as well as Triple or Quad SLI. And, even then, you just might actually make the PSU do some serious work. Also, the 3.3V and 5V offer 24 and 30 amps respectively which means nothing extra was wasted. Anything over 30A really isn't needed and tends to be the easy route cheap manufacturers take to get the wattage rating up. But, not Kingwin!

Specs & Amperage

Cracking open this beast reveals more of what you could just see beneath the 150mm fan. There are two pretty swank gold colored aluminum heat sinks spanning most of the PSU. They look very similar to some seen in a recent OCZ power supply which were black. In between the sinks is a 560uF 450v capacitor.

Scalpled!

Internal Circuits

That's a pretty beefy cap which hopefully equates in to a reliable power source. It looks like Kingwin made efficient use of the internal space and increased the overall air flow for when the PSU really starts cranking out the watts. Let's check it out and see how it performs.
