Introduction: Kingston Technology is one of the world leaders in the memory market. Their popular HyperX series is geared for the computer enthusiasts that want quality high performance memory, however Kingston produces the full line of memory from value to top of the line. Today I have for you the Kingston KHX6400D2LLK2/2GN Memory Kit. This is a 2x1GB DDR2 kit rated for PC2-6400 (800mhz) speeds. It's also programmed with NVIDIA's new Enhanced Performance Profiles (EPP) and is marketed as "SLI-Ready". Kingston makes a twin set to this without the "SLI-Ready" branding also. The "N" at the very end of the model number denotes the NVIDIA SLI Ready moniker. About Kingston Kingston Technology Company, Inc. is the world’s
independent memory leader.
Specifications: Description: 2GB 800MHz DDR2 Low-Latency CL4 (4-4-4-12) DIMM (NVIDIA SLI-Ready) Detailed Specifications: Standard 128M X 64 Non-ECC 800MHz 240-pin Unbuffered DIMM (SDRAM-DDR2, 2.0V, CL4, Gold) (Datasheet) Additional Info: Memory timings are 5-5-5-15.
Enhanced Performance Profiles: What is EPP? Developed as an extension to the traditional Serial Presence Detect (SPD) found on today's high performance DIMMS, Enhanced Performance Profiles allow memory manufacturers to integrate additional module performance data in the unused portion of the JEDEC standard SPD, allowing compatible motherboards to read and take advantage of added performance capabilities. EPP brings simplified overclocking success for entry level enthusiasts, and access to more advanced memory specifications and a higher recovery point for hard-core overclockers. To take full advantage of the Enhanced Performance Profiles, motherboards designed with a special BIOS can recognize the presence of EPP settings. Once these settings are enabled, the system boots directly into the memory's specified settings and takes immediate advantage of the increased performance. A Closer Look: The Kingston retail packaging for their memory is actually different from most other companies like Corsair, OCZ, Mushkin, etc. It's not the plain, clear, and seemingly "generic" packaging, but rather a much more professional look with black back and clear cover. It's two piece, not clamshell style. The wraparound label sticker for the package is nice also as it further confirms your exact kit's specs. It's a refreshing departure from the plain, clear packaging with zero information on it. So kudos to Kingston for the professional look. Once inside the package, we see a stunning brushed aluminum blue pair of memory sticks. I don't know about you guys, but honestly, the Kingston HyperX sticks have always been some of my favorite "looking" memory kits. They're easy on the eyes for sure. The blue brushed aluminum heatspreaders are two-piece (one of each side of the memory) like a lot of the high end memory in the market right now. The two-piece design is fortified with two metal clips on the top of each stick. There is also fragtape holding the spreaders to the memory modules inside, so it's not coming off easily, and also aids in heat dissipation with a good snug adhesion.
