Installation is real easy and a free external 3.5" drive bay is needed. If you don't have a free 3.5" bay but have a free 5.25" bay, you can use a bay adapter to achieve the same result. Securing the MB448U to the case is done by a few simple screws, and data connection is made with an internal USB cable that uses an onboard USB header. Also, power from the PSU will be needed, so that means a free FDD plug from the power supply.

Hard drive installation into the tray is just as easy. Simply remove two screws from the side of the tray and the front panel slides out. Place the hard drive in the tray and push the pins into the socket. Secure the hard drive to the tray with screws, and then slide the panel into the tray and secure with the two screws removed earlier. This is it, all done. Total time should be under 15 minutes for the first timer.

Conclusion:

This little device is perfect for those of us who happen to have some notebook hard drives laying around collecting dust. The ICY DOCK MB448U allows these hard drives to get back into use. Personally, I feel that any important information like documents, pictures, and videos should be placed on a secondary hard drive and stored in an off-site location just in case the main computer is stolen or the ever-dreaded hard drive failure happens.

Not only is it good for getting unused 2.5" drives back into action, the ICY DOCK MB448U also allows for portability of the drive. Sometimes it's just easier to bring along a small hard drive, versus toting a full-size laptop to certain locations. Plus, for those who bring their work home with them, it's easier to get the data from a HDD rather than a CD-R or DVD-R. I would like to thank ICY DOCK for sending this unit out to VH for review.
