Introduction:
During CES 2007 a couple months back, we had
the privilege of getting to visit with an a top
Enermax
rep from Taiwan looking at all their latest and
best products. Some of their product lines include Cases, Enclosures, External
Storage, Cooling, Peripherals of all sorts, and Power Supplies. And what a range
of power supplies they had on display. Before we get in to the specifics and spam your brain with numbers and figures, let's take a look at the Features and Specifications of the Infiniti 720 Watt PSU. You may be surprised at what this power supply is capable of. Two specific useful features are the Cool Guard and Power Guard. The Cool Guard can help monitor your system temperatures and controls the fan as it expels the warm air created by your system. The Power Guard simply helps protect your system from any abnormal power issues and offers auditory and visual warnings via LED.
The specs list some very nicely powered rails. The 3.3v and 5v rails are powered by what is probably the nearest perfect amperage. Cheap PSUs often crank more amps in to these two rails and leave out the 12v increases where it is really needed. Enermax is not a cheaply made PSU nor are the three 12v rails lacking. With rails providing 28, 28, and 30 amps, there should be more than enough power for Single, SLI, Triple SLI, and even Quad SLI based graphics systems. And you can even have about a dozen hard drives, if you feel so inclined. You can also rest assured that any motherboard to hit the market in the next year will operate well under its power. Judging a power supply's looks based on the box and web pictures can often be incorrect. This is the case with the Infiniti Triple Premium. Up close, you can see that the PSU actually has a very nicely brushed dark gray housing. All around the housing, the brushing is even and clean. The bottom 130.5mm cooling fan is made from clear acrylic covered a glossy gold fan grill. Essentially, Enermax has chosen to keep the PSU clean and assemble it with some style without going too far towards the "Lan Party" style. Looking at the cable side of the PSU, you can see that the modular power connectors are all black except for two red ports intended for your PCI Express 2.0 (DirectX 10) graphics components. The ports have no movement whatsoever and remain very sturdy even with a power cable plugged in. The black ports are all intended for your common power cabling. You've probably noticed that there are three permanently connected power cables rather than being modular. The main reason for this is that these cables provide the most essential power to your system and require the best unbroken connection. When there are too many socket connections or breaks in any wiring, the quality of the connection is degraded and can cause problems. So, rather than increasing the odds of connectivity issues, Enermax has chosen a design that prevents this from happening.
