Introduction:
ECS is one of those companies that almost every enthusiast knows about – and that’s mostly due to their slightly mired past. From the dark days at the mythical dawn of computing, ECS has always focused on creating motherboards with the capability to handle everything thrown at them, as well as keeping up with the joneses in the process. Thing is, this was a formula that took a few years to get right. I’m sure that if you look out there, the remnants of forums dedicated to tweaking and modifying some of the old hybrid motherboards featuring Socket 462 still exist – ECS’ first real claim to fame, a motherboard, that with enough modification was stable, and capable of handling almost any CPU. ECS has since come a long way from these perhaps troubled beginnings, and with their successful forays into OEM manufacturing, their product has enjoyed a boost in quality, stability in speed. With that, the ECS enthusiasts and system builders know today is born. While the motherboards may not come with exorbitant bundles, kitchen sink inclusive, nor may they be overclocking titans, they are cheap, they have a wide variety of features, and they are stable. How can I say this with such confidence? Simply – that I’ve tested quite a few of ECS’ motherboards since 2006, and each one has been a slightly quirky, but overall positive experience. On that note, I expect good things from the P45T-A Black Edition, and the first of those is to be finally free of the color pallet which looked like some sort of carnival. With that in mind, it’s time to see what I’ve got. Features:
