Introduction:

ECS Elitegroup A780GM-A "Black Series" Motherboard

Things have been moving a little bit better on the AMD home front now that the previous Phenom processors have been replaced with 'errata' free processors. The Phenoms original launch just didn't go very well at all even with the clever BIOS or board modifications. Now that we're in to the revised 9x50 series, users are back to a worry free experience.

Motherboard companies held up their end of the Phenom launch by offering some decent platforms despite the issues. So, platforms are a bit ahead of the curve as the new chips arrive. Since Phenoms haven't done well in the region of overclocking, many of the motherboards seem to offer just enough BIOS options to get it its max. That doesn't mean that they don't offer some worth while features and specs.

Black Series Heatsink

What tends to best benefit AMD's processors is a stable, capable motherboard. Without it, that memory bandwidth simply goes to waste and performance wanes. The nice thing about any AMD processor is that it can still provide a worthy gaming experience even if it's not the fastest core around. The average processor 2.4 GHz on up tends to be the limiting barrier.

There hasn't been a great deal of AMD motherboards moving in the retail sector mainly due to users waiting on the properly working processors. If there's a special performer out there, I have yet to see it. ECS noticed that same void and put their minds together to come up with the ECS A780GM-A Black Series Motherboard.
