Installation and Testing:

Installing the CoolMax Green Power power supply is like installing any other power supply except easier. Why easier? NO WIRES to get in the way... WOOOOOHOOOO! Now for testing, the CoolMax will be installed into my main rig which consists of:

  • ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe

  • AMD AM2 4600

  • 2gb OCZ RAM

  • 2 SATA Hard drives (120gb/250gb)

  • 2 DVD RW's

  • Several Fans

Seasonic Power Angel will be used to read the efficiency of the power supply under load, Prime95 to stress the system, and CPU-Z and ASUS PC Probe II to read the idle and load voltages.

Idle

Load

As you can see with the test results the voltages didn't really fluctuate. The 3.3 rail under idle was 3.4 and at load was at 3.3. All the other voltages stayed the same and were rock solid. You can't ask for more than that.

Test 120v Amperes Watts Volt-Amps Hertz Power Factor/120w Load
Enermax 620w 121.8 1.41 170w 172va 59.9 0.99%
Seasonic 430w 122.7 1.39 170w 171va 59.9 0.98%

Kingwin Absolute Power ABT 600CW 121.1 2.11 181 256va 59.9 0.68%
CoolMax Power Green CUG-600B 120.8 1.16 134 144 59.9 0.95%

Conclusion:

The CoolMax CUG-600B power is a very stable unit with little to no fluctuations in power while under load conditions. With a PF rating of .95% under a 134w load is fantastic; with higher wattages being pulled from the CUG-600B, the efficiency should be better. Weird, but that's how it works. While pushing the cables into the power supply, everything felt solid: no rocking motions were felt and the locking tabs locked the cables into place securely.

More on the cables: I felt that all the cables had suitable lengths to them and plenty of connections. More than enough Molex connections for the average user. For the SATA connections, only 4 are available and should be sufficient. The sleeving on the cable is a bit stiff but can be worked into different positions without too much of an issue. The 8 pin 12v plug that can be split into two 4 pin plugs is a great idea that keeps excess plugs to a minimum.

The black piano finish with gold fan grill really compliment each other, and doesn't overly bling out the power supply. The rock solid feel and look of the CoolMax Green Power 600Watt power supply will work in just about any setup, and with the modular design, only the cables you really need will be in the case. I would like to thank CoolMax for sending out this unit for review.
