Buffalo FireStix PC2-9200 2x512MB DDR2-1150 Dual Channel Memory Kit Review

Introduction:

Buffalo Technology has been making a name for itself in the enthusiast memory market lately with it's high performance FireStix modules. If you've read our last Buffalo FireStix PC2-6400 review then you know they won some serious praise already here at VH.

Many memory companies are clamoring to up the ante and release the latest and greatest memory kit. Buffalo Tech is no exception. They already have some fantastic PC2-6400 (800mhz), PC2-8000 (1000mhz), and PC2-8500 (1066mhz). However that wasn't enough for Buffalo. They sent me their newest incarnation, and possibly upped the ante for the entire DDR2 memory market at the same time.

What is it you ask? Well it's their new PC2-9200 (1150mhz!) DDR2 2x512MB dual channel memory kit! That's right, I said 1150mhz. Timings are rated for 5-6-6-18 and voltage requirements are 2.3v-2.35v depending on motherboard. Those are some crazy high specs and personally the highest I've seen or read about being released officially from a top name memory company, or any memory manufacturer for that matter.

Buffalo isn't stopping at 1150mhz either, they'll soon be releasing 1200mhz and 1250mhz DDR2!! I believe Japan is seeing these new kits before the USA. I've heard that this 1150mhz kit is already for sale in Japan. I know I can't find it for sale in the USA just yet, but it's coming.

Let's see if Buffalo's claims about what this PC2-9200 kit will run are true and with such an extreme rating, do you even consider overclocking such a kit? Do you even need to overclock something already running 1150mhz?! Read on...
