Introduction:

Antec Signature 850 Watt Power Supply

A few months while at PDXLAN down in Portland, Oregon, I had a pretty good time hanging out with some of the vendors. One of the vendors happened to be Antec. (We love Antec here at VH!) They had a few of their past, present, and current power supplies on display for handling, drooling over, or what ever you fancy.

One of the heaviest boxes contained their newest Signature Series 850 Watt Power Supply. If you recall, their last PSU with this wattage was the Quattro 850 Watt with the really cool yellow racing stripes. The Quattro was pretty great in its own right and is a decent strong PSU for the price and wattage. Some of the things that were just a bit weak on the Quattro have been vastly improved.

Some of the improvements included a change in the Capacitors, better grade wiring, and strong switching components. From a consumer's view point, this may not seem like anything special. But, from a tester's perspective, it means what was good has now been really improved. A better PSU can mean anything from longer life span to greater efficiency which is a big plus when we're "nickled, dimed, and dollared" by fuel prices.

Essentially, the Signature 850 Watt PSU replaces the Quattro. It's obviously intended to carve a name in Antec's history book. So, let's see if it's worthy of greatness.

Features & Specifications:

The Pinnacle of Power

Designed to appeal to system builders looking for a truly premium power supply, the Signature 850 boasts many cutting-edge features, several of which have never before been offered in a consumer power supply. The Signature 850 features DC to DC voltage regulator modules which ensure greater system stability, and an 80mm Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) fan which can run up to 50% quieter than standard fans. Not only does the Signature 850 deliver the latest in stability, reliability, and quiet cooling, it also passes 80 PLUS® Bronze certification, a rare distinction in energy efficiency attained by very few other power supplies.
