More Inside:
The main section of the case is where the MATX motherboard resides. This area has some unique features. One feature is the sliding door on the dividing wall between the power supply and motherboard. The wires from the optical drive and power supply pass through this opening, and the door slides over the hole to close up any unused space. This helps to reduce hot air being drawn over from the power supply. The second unique feature are the CPU Air Guides, which are adjustable by adding or removing sections. These guides help to, you guessed it, "guide" fresh intake air over the CPU. In the motherboard section, there are two 120mm TriCool fans, each with 3-speed switches. Installation:
Motherboard installation is similar to that of any other case: install the standoffs and then screw down the motherboard. For the hard drives, remove the top bracket, slide in the drives, and secure with the longer screws. For the optical drive, remove the bay from the case and install one optical drive into the LOWER BAY ONLY. The upper bay is where the VFD is located and if a drive is installed here, damage can occur. As mentioned earlier about the sliding door to help with the wires: there are also 2 wire straps to really keep the wires under control, and again this will really help with the air flow. VFD: Here are some sample screen shots:
For the VFD two connections need to be made. Connection more for power and the second for data. Power comes from the 4 pin FDD plug on the power supply. The data comes from a USB connection. The VFD comes with a USB plug on the end and a adapter is included to convert the USB plug in to a USB header plug for a motherboard. Also a software cd is included with the Antec Fusion to run the VFD. Conclusion: This is an extremely carefully thought-out case. The sectioned-off interior has been designed to help with proper air flow over critical components. The VFD is bright and is intended to be used with MS MCE. The basic features included are System information, Media Information, E-Mail check, Daily news, City information like weather reports, and a graphic EQ! The Antec Fusion will fit into any home theater setup and look good doing it, and will look especially sharp if your current components are silver. As for fan noise, the low and medium settings give off very little sound while the high setting is more noticeable, but not to the point where it would distract you from watching a quiet movie scene. I would rate the Antec Fusion very high on the list of home theater enclosures to purchase. As a personal attestation to the Fusion's high quality, I feel obligated to share that out of all the many cases I have reviewed for VH, I previously had only kept one for myself... the Fusion now takes that number to 2.
