Games:
BioShock is currently making waves in the gaming world and may end up as game of the year. The hardware demands for the game are extreme, so I figured I would benchmark the game and see how things would play. The hardware worked flawlessly and I will be be enjoying every scene of this new hot game Overclocking: Wow! I'm sad to say, but trying to overclock my E6850 on this motherboard was a major pain in the butt, not to mention extremely hot. I was really disappointed I wasn't able to push the limits of the processor much further than 300MHz. I spent many hours adjusting every voltage possible, and I just hit a brick wall 266x9 not matter what I adjusted. Even when I adjusted the multiplier down, I still hit the limit rather quickly. I know that this CPU can go to at least 4.0GHz on air alone. Unfortunately, the chipset is the limiting factor here and not heat. Conclusion: Without a doubt, the ASUS P5N32-E SLI Plus is a solid motherboard that won't break the budget, but it also won't break any overclocking records. The 650i chipset is the limiting factor here. If you do plain old overclocking, I highly recommend additional cooling fans pointed at both the chipset and the fins on the heatpipe. The last thing you want to do is melt the copper. Aside from the overclocking issue, the board performed flawlessly at the stock and even the max OC settings I got. Updating the BIOS was also painless and done effortlessly. The high points of the ASUS P5N32-E SLI Plus is the dual x16 PCI-E slots, which you gamers out there will love. The increased bandwidth will have SLI users drooling over their keyboards. A few other improvements to the Plus model is the 8 phase power design and solid state polymer capacitors around the CPU socket. For the gamer or enthusiast, the P5N32-ESLI Plus is a superb motherboard for you. It's strong, stable, and BioShock played with ease using the hardware I had, and I'm wasn't even using the best graphics card. I want to thank ASUS for sending this motherboard out for VH to review.
