Introduction:

ADATA Theme Series - 2GB Mickey USB Drive

It seems that USB Pen Drives are becoming an office necessity. Everyone is tired of hauling around boxes containing the seemingly endless piles of paper work, diagrams, or who knows what. It's really nice to see pen drives have increased in both size, quantities, and security features. They all might have different colors, but they typically all still look like pen drives.

Security isn't always a necessity and it doesn't always have to look like a pen drive. You've probably seen some CES coverage with the various crystals and diamond encrusted variations of USB drives that will cost an unconventional premium. Why can't we get something a little simpler, nicer, and maybe with a theme?

Whilst working on some large projects around the office, a delivery woman dropped off a care package from A-Data. Inside the box was just such a USB drive unlike the common drives typically seen. This one has a special purpose as well as novelty, or collectible potential.

Specifications:

  • USB 2.0 Flash Drive x 1

  • Accessory x 1

  • Size: 40.60mm x 28.35mm x 40.0mm

  • Weight: 15g

  • Data Retention: Up to 10 years

  • System Requirements: Windows 98/98SE, Me/2000/XP/Vista
                                   Mac: OS 9.0 or later

Closer Look:

If you recall, the Disney 2GB USB Drive was on display at A-Data's CES booth. Being a memory IC manufacturer, they are probably one of the perfect companies for helping deliver such an idea.

Gift Bag

Book Front

The Theme Series 2GB Drive comes in a toddler's style book of sorts with extra thick pages. Each little page has some fun pictures and art work reminiscent to Disney. The middle of the book is where you find the Drive and accompanying key chain.

My Life On Lin

Mickey!

Where is the drive chip? Each Mickey Drive has an ear that pulls out which contains the storage chip. It isn't in the typical, enclosed metal port. Instead, the ear itself has just the male end. This helps keep the size of drive down making it easier to keep on a key chain or in your lap top bag.

Pull Out His Ear!

And if you feel so inclined, you can put a small picture of whatever it is that helps get you through the day behind the front plastic window. Otherwise, it's one storage drive pretty much guaranteed to appeal to the young masses.

Key Chain, Drive, and Picture Frame

You'll happy to know that you can order these and pick them up from retailers and your local mall Disney stores. These aren't going to be sold only through Disney stores which is a relief. Theme park prices tend to get a bit steep especially for novelty gifts.

Conclusion:

The Adata Disney Series 2GB USB Drive is a cool idea and will naturally end up being a popular gift if you want to send or take something home reminding you of Disney. It's a cool idea that'll appeal to everyone's better nature without the theme park price tag. This should please a lot of people.

Kids Love Disney

And the novelty of it should resonate among the younger people. My daughter saw the pictures from CES and thought it was the coolest thing for kids who want to take music over their friends house, or for school projects. She knew exactly what it would probably best be suited. So, you can imagine the excitement level while taking pictures. I'd like to have played with it a little longer, but apparently, it's not my turn anymore.
