Now once you have the drives taken out you must remove the motherboard, power supply and fan. First your going to want to remove all five of the cables attached. There are 2 USB controller cables, 1 power cable, 1 power/reset button cable and one cable for the fan. Removal of the cables is pretty straight forward and if you can’t figure out how, you probably shouldn’t be messing with your Xbox
The fan is held in by two tabs. You pull the tabs away from the fan and pull up on the fan and it should come right out. It’s a bit of a pain and may require a flat head screw driver to push the tabs back, just because not to scratch any of the components if you’re using a screw drivers if you slip while applying force.
Now we’re getting to the really fun stuff. Time to remove the motherboard and power supply. The motherboard is held in by a total of 9 screws, marked with the green circles below, and the power supply 2 screws, marked with red. All screws Torx of course. After you removed all the screws you have to slide the motherboard or power supply towards the front of the Xbox case before you are able to lift them out. Make sure to put both in anti static bags to reduce the risk of anything getting damaged while not in the Xbox.
Just a few more components left to remove. We will tackle the controller ports next. These come off easy. Each one has 2 screws, remove the screws and it just slides right out. Make sure to put everything where you won’t lose anything. I have a lid on my container since being the clumsy boy I am its bound to get knocked over at some point. Last piece to remove is the circuitry for the LEDs and power/eject switches. You have to remove the front bezel to do this. You have to grab it from the front and pull out on both sides. It’s not screwed in or anything you just got to work it a little bit and it will pop right out. You’ll be left with what is shown below. The only thing that holds the circuit board in place is this little tab shown below. You just have to push it in and it will pop right out, being left with just the buttons themselves which will come right off with a little bit of pulling.
