The Finished Product

After everything is connected, feed the WOL OUT and second fan connection through the back of the PSU. Then close up the PSU and reinstall it into your computer. Plug the power cord from the wall outlet into the PSU's plug. The new plug that you just installed will be for the pump. You will need to take a computer power cord, and cut it in half. Then cut the power plug off of your pump, and splice the other wire's plug onto the pump cord. Wrap up everything with electrical tape, and plug the pump power cord into the new plug on the PSU. Hook up all your internal power connections, and turn on the computer.

If everything was done correctly, your pump should automatically start up with the computer. After you shut down, the pump and the exhaust fan should remain on for the specified amount of time on the PDP.

I also installed this setup on a second PSU, this time for an internal pump connection. Here is how it came out:

Conclusion

This project may seem hard, but it is actually pretty easy if you have basic electronics knowledge. I myself have not done very much electrical component soldering, and I was able to finish this project in about an hour. The results of this project are worth the time it took. I no longer need to worry about my pump not powering on with my computer. Here are some pro's and con's for this project:

Pros

  • Automatic pump power-on

  • Timed power-off of pump, to properly cool the PSU after shutdown

  • Eliminates second power cord for pump

  • All components installed internally and out of sight

  • Pump power plug can be installed internally or externally, depending on where your pump is located

  • Install time under 1 hour

Cons

  • Requires soldering

  • Void's PSU's warranty

Final Thoughts
