 Modding Yer Keyboard LEDs Guide

Date : Friday, 06 April 2001

Here is a nice little mod that will give you something to do when not making All Your Base Are Belong To Us pictures and downloading pr0n.

Here is the list of materials:

  • Keyboard
  • Soldering Iron
  • Screwdriver
  • Piece of Paper
  • 3x 3mm LEDs
  • Solder

First, disconnect your keyboard from your computer.

Ok, now turn your keyboard upside down and remove the screws one by one.

And stick the screws through the piece of paper.

Place them in the same essential shape/place they where on the keyboard. This is so you don't forget what screw goes where. Now you must take off the top cover, and unscrew the other parts. First unscrew the button sheets or whatever they are called. My keyboard had 4 screws for the "button sheet" which also included my hotkeys.

I put red outlines around the screws I had to remove.

Here is the keyboard PCB.

You will need to remove the screws that hold this down. You will also need to pull out the wires coming from the "Button Sheet". This us a thin piece of plastic that is connected to the Keyboard PCB. Be Careful!! And take your time, then remove the Keyboard PCB and lay it somewhere. Sorry for the flash glare.
