Introduction: Most of you PC tweakers might have already heard of Cliff Anderson's infamous Fanbus or Baybus. It's a nifty little piece of invention that lets you connect all the fan wires or leads to a ccentralized location in your PC, thus reducing cable clutter, improving airflow and saving all those MOLEX connectors from the PSU for the more important hardwares in your system, hard drive, CD-ROM, etc. You can get the Fanbus or Baybus from Cliff himself or through 2CoolTek. But for the hardcore hobbyist or DIY'ers, you might be able to to it yourself, with some improvisation. So here's a quick guide to making your own Fanbus. First, lets take a look at what you will need. You might have noticed that Cliff use's either a spring wire clip, the ones you would find behind your speakers, or the screw type, which I can't find here at the local stores. For this guide, I'll be using the spring type. You will also need an electronic hobby box (that's what they call it here) to house all those wires.
You will also need some cable connectors (see below left pic) and a male MOLEX Connector to connect to your PSU. You can rip it off an old fan you have laying around. ;-) Get some cables (I used yellow and black cables to indicate 12V and Ground.) You could simply tape the wires to the connectors or for a more professional finish, I suggest you solder them. This will ensure a better connection between the wires and the connectors. In that case, you will need some solders and soldering paste. And don't forget than soldering iron!!
The hand drill is for drilling the holes in the hobby box to attach the spring wire clips. Now that you have all the tools and equipments ready, let's start the operation!!
