Griffin Elan Passport & Sleeve for iPad Review @ Virtual-Hideout ![]() “Honestly both the Griffin Elan Passport for iPad and Elan Sleeve for iPad are excellent cases for your iPad. They will both protect and look great while doing it. The materials seem very durable and the craftsmanship is high quality. With the design exception of the power/sleep button being covered on the Elan Passport, both models have been flawless to work with. I can easily recommend both products. As a word to the savvy shopper out there, never pay MSRP as it is usually way too high, just as in this case. The MSRP for the Elan Passport for iPad is $49.99 from the Griffin site, however you can find it on Amazon.com for less than $30. Also the Elan Sleeve is also $49.99 from the Griffin site and just $28 on Amazon.com. Finding great deals online on Griffin products is something I've found consistently and I commend them on allowing it to happen that way. So many companies today price their products right out of the market. Griffin is smarter than that." Griffin TuneBuds Mobile for iPhone Review @ Virtual-Hideout ![]() “Today I have for review another accessory for the iPhone. However this one will work with many mobile and portable devices like the iPod. The Griffin TuneBuds Mobile headphones are tailored for the Apple iPhone, but not exclusive to it. A standard 3.5mm headphone plug will allow this to work with many devices but the special controls on the wire will allow full control with the iPod and even iPhone.” OCZ Technology Solid State Drives Officially Qualified With Adaptec MaxIQ Caching Solutions SAN JOSE, CA—May 27, 2010—OCZ Technology Group, Inc. Marware Eco-Vue for iPad Review @ Virtual-Hideout ![]() “Today I have for review the new Eco-Vue case from Marware for the Apple iPad. It's a leather folio style case designed for maximum protection. The exploding success of the Apple iPad is driving accessory manufacturers to hurry up and get their products on the market. Many of them are rushed and poorly designed. The folio style case is one of the most popular designs on the market with not two being the exact same. It seems they are as unique as fingerprints. Will the Marware Eco-Vue rise above the endless masses of subpar products? Read on to find out.” Lian Li Launches the PC-B25S Mid Tower Chassis with Silence in Mind ![]() Keelung, Taiwan – Lian Li Industrial Co. Ltd. launches the PC-B25S mid tower chassis. Now multiply that by ten fold when said cell phone is a multimedia powerhouse like the Apple iPhone 3GS that can do a million things and therefore has a million things to lure you into messing with it while driving. The full touchscreen of the iPhone has been considered a drawback to some for it's difficulty using in pocket or without eyes on it to see what you're doing. However that same full touchscreen makes this next product absolutely great with the iPhone while driving. The Griffin WindowSeat iPhone/iPod Windshield Mount is designed to hold your iPhone or iPod touch while attached to your vehicles windshield much like a GPS would mount. We've all seen those GPS devices mounted on cars all over the place. iFrogz EarPollution ThrowBax Headphones Review @ Virtual-Hideout.net![]() Recently I was on the hunt for an affordable pair of headphones to use occasionally with my laptop. However not only did they have to be affordable, they had to sound good and look good. I really like the around the ear fit for it's superior comfort and also I like the retro look with exposed frame and such, but those are hard to come by in the affordable range, until now. Upon my online research travels I fell across the ThrowBax lineup of EarPollution headphones from iFrogz. I immediately was drawn to the badass good looks and attention to detail. When I seen that they only retailed for $29.99, I was ready to try them. Then when I found them for under $20 at Amazon.com, I just had to have them. I was prepared for them to be junk, but I was delightfully surprised. Griffin Elan Passport iPod Touch 2G Case Review @ Virtual-Hideout ![]() “I'm back today with a quick review of a new case from Griffin Technology for the iPod Touch 2G. It's a folio style case eloquently called the Elan Passport. Just as with the iPhone, the iPod Touch is a massive market for accessory manufacturers. There is approximately 35 million iPod Touch devices in the wild. That's a ton of accessories that will be sold. I don't know about you guys, but every single person I know with an iPhone or iPod Touch (which is alot!) not only love their device, but also owns at least one accessory for it, usually a case of some sort. Most own numerous accessories, including multiple cases (for different occasions) because depending on what you'll be doing on a given day, you may need more or less protection for your device. Let's take a closer look at the Elan Passport case from Griffin and see where it fits in.” iSkin unveils fashion laptop carriers TORONTO, Canada- April 27, 2010 – iSkin Inc. today introduces silo, its line of fashionable laptop carriers that delivers fun and functional protection to your laptop. Now I'm not talking about the simple (and overpriced) apple single dock. That is virtually useless in my opinion. Incipio Leather Flip iPhone 3GS Case Review @ Virtual-Hideout ![]() “If you were looking for that perfect brown leather flip case for your iPhone, you might want to hang on and wait until revision 2 of this unit, which I hope Incipio takes these ideas and makes it happen. At a retail price of just $29.99 too, this case could have made a huge splash in the market in my opinion. Considering some of the crappiest molded silicone junk is selling for $15-$25 as it is, this high quality leather flip from Incipio is a fantastic value for what you get. It's too bad they missed the mark, if even by a little, which is all it takes in this incredibly competitive market segment.” CMHD Movie Trailer Contest CMHD.TV wants to see how creative you can be. Griffin Hands-Free Mic + AUX Cable Review @ Virtual-Hideout ![]() “There are well over 4 billion mobile phones in the world. Now imagine how many of those phones are stuck to the ear of someone driving a car. Annoying isn't it? And dangerous! And illegal in many places! However that's not stopping anyone now is it? Sure there are many different types of hands-free "kits" on the market to make using your mobile phone while driving much safer, but most of them are either too expensive, too complex or simply too bulky for most people. VIZO EZ-SURF Fanless Notebook Cooler Review @ Virtual-Hideout ![]() “Before I attempted to install the sticky rubbery tape thingy, I mean the "heat absorbing material", I thought there really wasn't anything to this product. It was basically an aluminum slab with some plastic ends. However introduce the sticky pad thingy and we've got a whole new animal. The sticky pad was easy to apply to the unit, however then you need to peel off the top adhesive protector. That's where the problem starts. There was no way to remove it without messing it up. It just wanted to peel off the main unit. This is by far the worst product add-on that I have had the displeasure of working with. I honestly can't believe VIZO would attempt to pass this headache onto the customer. It shows their failure to design and engineer some grippy material into the unit itself. I tried to use the EZ-Surf without the sticky pad and it honestly shot right out from underneath my laptop letting it crash to the table. It's that slick (plastic and aluminum) without it. The angled and smooth edges don't help, they only hurt that problem.” Thecus Launches the N4200 NAS Server ![]() In the digital age, people are creating and accessing digital content like never before. As such, they require a storage device that is powerful enough to store and serve this content, but friendly enough to manage quickly and effortlessly. Today, digital storage leader Thecus® Technology is proud to announce the Thecus® N4200. Fast, secure, and incredibly easy-to-use, the N4200 is the ideal home NAS for the digital lifestyle. NZXT Debuts Hades Gaming Chassis NZXT, a company built on realizing the dreams of gamers worldwide, is proud to unveil Hades, a chassis that provides an array of advanced features for the most demanding PC enthusiast. Airflow is optimized with 5 fans(dual 200mm intake, 200 mm front fan, dual top 140mm fans, side 200mm fan, and rear 120mm exhaust). NZXT includes all the fans with the exception of the top 140mm and also provides a dual fan 8W per channel controller giving enthusiasts freedom to manage intake and exhaust airflow. A three temperature display on the front panel allows the user to see the temperature inside the chassis even when the door is closed. Additionally, the meshed 5.25” bays, door, and bottom panel allows for air to naturally flow into the system with ease. Swiftech® unveils the world's first fully integrated pump and radiator, the MCR Drive™ series of heat exchangers. “The ultimate cooling Machine™” ![]() Rouchon Industries, Inc. dba Swiftech® today announced the release of the MCR Drive™ series of heat exchangers, a totally new concept in the world of liquid cooling: the patent pending heat exchangers feature a unique radiator with a built-in pump and a reservoir. The MCR Drive™ concept constitutes the foundation for a simple, high-performance, yet versatile liquid cooling system where only CPU and/or Graphics waterblocks will need to be added; this provides a future-proof solution where users will only have to swap their waterblock whenever they upgrade to a new form factor. "Integrated liquid cooling systems are not new, but none exist where the core cooling system combines radiator, pump and reservoir. If we look at competing products, many of the entry level liquid cooling kits which are now available to the public only provide incremental performance improvements compared to high-end heat pipe heatsinks because they only use a single 120mm radiator; they also offer limited compatibility and upgradeability with various CPU form factors, and most feature a hermetically closed loop thus disallowing the addition of graphics or chipset cooling in the loop. With this in mind, we believe that if users or system builders are to make the jump to liquid cooling, they might as well enjoy the full benefits of the added performance headroom afforded by the use of dual, triple or even quad radiators" said Gabriel Rouchon, Swiftech's Chairman and CTA. Mr. Rouchon also added: "The implications of this new invention are fairly far reaching, because there finally is a truly high performance cooling solution that is safe, easy to integrate in a PC, and future proof. This solution solves many of the issues faced not only by consumers, but OEM's and system builders in search for a reliable and effective system-wide cooling system". The MCR Drive™ series of heat exchangers are available in dual 120mm or triple 120mm form factors. They are also sold with or without a pump; Swiftech's existing MCP350 and MCP355 pumps are fully compatible with the MCR Drive™ radiators. Thermaltake Massive 23 CS Notebook Cooler Review @ Virtual-Hideout ![]() “Yup, I'm back today with yet another notebook cooler. This one is the Massive 23 CS from Thermaltake which will look very similar as it's the aluminum version of the plastic Massive 23 ST I reviewed recently. Plastic being the more economical of course while using aluminum is more costly, but also makes for a better quality product with better cooling ability as aluminum disperses heat better than plastic which just gets hot. Besides differing on the materials, the Massive 23 CS also has an upgraded 230mm fan with multiple colors and settings for a more customizable look for the end user. Let's take a closer look.” Noctua intros NH-C12P special edition ![]() Noctua today officially introduced its new NH-C12P SE14 premium cooler. OCZ Eclipse Double Laser Gaming Mouse Review @ Virtual-Hideout ![]() “Having a good gaming PC is more than just about having a good CPU, GPU or motherboard. Having the proper input peripherals is also key to your success on the gaming battlefield. Thecus N7700 Ultimate NAS Server Review @ Virtual-Hideout ![]() “ Thecus is a company whose products I’ve reviewed quite a few times now. Their high end Network Access servers can go toe-to-toe with anything. It was two years ago that I reviewed the first version of the N5200. Since that time the N5200 has run virtually 24/7/365, only being shut down maybe a dozen times. Either when I have moved it to new locations, rearranged cables or firmware updates. It has also survived 2 separate UPS failures. The 5200’s drives are sitting at 15731 hours and counting. I have not had a single issue with the 5200 since its review.” Noctua presents NH-D14 premium cooler Vienna, November 2nd 2009 - Noctua today officially presented its long-awaited NH-D14 premium CPU cooler. So with more and more laptops out there in the wild, and faster and hotter hardware being stuffed into them, the need for notebook coolers is at an all-time high. Thermaltake has answered the call with the Massive 23 ST notebook cooler. Swiftech® introduces new Apogee™ XT flagship waterblock ![]() Long Beach, CA – October 6, 2009 19:45 PM Pacific Standard Time - Rouchon Industries, Inc. dba Swiftech® today announced the release of their new flagship waterblock, the Apogee™ XT. The "XT" waterblock represents the culmination of months of research and development marked by hundreds of hours of competitive testing. The end result is a product that manages to surpass everything that made its predecessor -the Apogee™ GTZ, one of the best water-blocks in the world; a substantial increase in thermal performance, sumptuous functional elegance, unique convenience features for beginners and extreme users alike, all contribute to place the new "XT" in a class of its own. Like its precursor, the Apogee™ XT thermal design is primarily characterized by a pin matrix composed of 225 µm (0.009") micro structures, and topographically mapped cold plate. However both features have been considerably optimized to yield dominating results with Intel® socket LGA 1156 and 1366 processors. The product is shipped with a tool free retention mechanism which is adjustable to fit all Intel® Core™ Desktop processors (*); support for AMD® and Intel® server processors is expected to follow shortly. “We focused on three areas: performance, appearance, and user-oriented features. According to our competitive test results, the Apogee™ XT thermal performance is currently unmatched; cosmetically, I find it to be the most appealing product we have ever made; and finally, with respect to user-oriented features, we kept the exceptional mounting system of the GTZ, but made it even better, and we added support for the increasingly popular compression fittings. Leading is constant innovation, but it is also listening to your customers, and we did just that.” said Gabriel Rouchon Swiftech's Chairman & CTA. The product is being shipped to the distribution channels now. In-Win Matrix Gaming Case Review @ Virtual-Hideout![]() “IN-WIN, computer cases, power supplies, drive enclosures. They are a fairly well known company around here, and while I haven’t reviewed one of their PC cases before, this isn’t the first IN-WIN case I’ve used. When my family needed a new system, I chose a case that is very similar to the Matrix, the BK623 has a very unassuming name, and doesn’t look quite as clean beside the Matrix, but internally they are identical. The Matrix is marketed as IN-WIN's 'Tiny Tower' gaming case. XClio One Notebook Cooler Review @ Virtual-Hideout ![]() “I'm not sure why manufacturers think they can just slap some LED's on anything and it'll pass. Maybe 10 years ago, but not anymore folks. And honestly, who uses 40mm fans anymore? They are utterly useless in every area. This product is called a notebook cooler and that's a stretch of the use of the category. If by simply tilting up the rear of your laptop enables itself to cool better (as it would with virtually every laptop on the market), then I suppose you could loosely call this a cooler. However you need a smoke stream to see if the air is even moving (even on "high" power). I bet this unit could be redesigned as a wireless notebook cooler, and with those tiny fans and no airflow, it should run for weeks on a couple of AA batteries.” ECS Delivers A785GM-M, the First Micro ATX Black Series Motherboard ![]() ECS A785GM-M, based on AMD 785G and SB710 chipsets, supports the latest AMD Phenom™ II processors as well as ATI Hybrid Graphics Technology to deliver amazing performance to meet users’ needs. | Just a quick update on my son; he's still home and doing very well. So far there has been no issues and he's eating and sleeping good. It's so nice to have him back home. He's got 3 doctors appointments by the end of August, so we should know better on the longer term then. Thanks again for the prayers, they seem to have worked quite well! NZXT Zero 2 Case Review @ Virtual-Hideout ![]() “Gaming is all about taking it to the extreme. In the pursuit of the best gaming experience, gamers have stopped at nothing to achieve this always-rising goal. Overclocking, adding another GPU/Videocard and upgrading are the typical paths and all of them have the downside of generating extra heat, which is potentially damaging to components and can impede performance. To remedy this, a proper case with good airflow is needed. Usually, a full tower provides the best option, since the extra space not only permits more fans but also provides the proper clearance for airflow as well. NZXT was thinking exactly this with the Zero 2 case, a steel-chassis full-tower beast that boasts a capacity for an impressive seven 120mm fans.“ Thecus Launches the N0503 ComboNAS ![]() 07/28/2009 – Ever the innovator, Thecus® Technology has racked up an impressive number of firsts. Today, Thecus® is pleased to reveal the world’s first NAS device with the ability to accommodate both 2.5” and 3.5” hard disks – the N0503. SilverStone launchs the Grandia GD03 As high definition videos and films become ever more important in home theater setups, the need for quickly expanding storage space has come into greater focus. Today was the big day. My son was discharged from the pediatric intensive care unit after a 4 week recovery from his complete a/v canal defect (with imbalance) heart repair surgery. We are now home enjoying his smile and energy back in the house.![]() I would like to thank all of you out there who helped my family and I get through this extremely difficult time with your blessings. I would especially like to thank the incredible doctors and nurses in the WVU PICU. They were absolutely great. As for the road ahead for Junior; he's only on a few medications right now and will follow up closely with his cardiologist and pediatrician every few weeks/month for the time being. However there is nothing special we need to do for him and he's not plugged into anything or on any machines. He's running completely by himself, and that's amazing. Thanks again all. I need to recuperate for a few days now after the the past crazy month and enjoy my family back together. |

| Sorry for the lack of updates everyone, but his progress has been so good this week that it's kept us at the hospital so much enjoying and taking a more hands on approach to caring and feeding him. So over the past few days, his down lung finally opened up (yes!) and he's been eating like a pig (for him). He's gained almost 2 pounds this week alone! Eating good and gaining weight is a good sign for a 6 month old that's way behind the curve already (11 lbs at 6 months). My two other kids were like 20lb at 6 months, to give you an idea. Let's see, what else? Did I mention he was smiley? Holy crap is he smiley. He's got the whole PICU in love with him. All you have to do is talk to Junior and his face lights right up with a huge smile. ![]() They have him off the CPAP now and only on the nasal canula and even that should be off in another day. His lungs are looking great now, he's very quiet (not weezy sounding) and he's eating and sleeping great. We could not have asked for a better week then we were blessed with this week. So much progress. If we're lucky and he continues to progress this well, he could be home in a week! Thanks again to all those who have supported us during my son's recovery process. | Tuesday Night Junior Recovery Update Posted by Diceman on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 @ 1:23 |
| |
| Hi all. Just wanted to update everyone on Juniors Recovery Status. He's pretty much doing the same as he was days ago, as in he's being on and off the CPAP to try to pump up his bum lung. However the good news is we've been feeding him normally (via bottle) for the past few days and today he was chowing down. Eating well, burping well and holding it down. Here he was today after filling up on a bottle and resting on momma's shoulder. ![]() Tomorrow he will have a central line relocated from his leg to his shoulder and also a bronchial scrub (yes, that's just what it sounds like) to try to clean out more junk in his pipes. He's been sounding better the past couple days. You can hear stuff moving in his lungs and he's been coughing now and then, which is key to clear out the pipes. Unfortunately they'll have to sedate him again tomorrow for that stuff so I get to pull more hair out waiting for him to come out of it again. *prays for no drama* Super Talent Delivers Windows 7 Compatible 128GB Luxio USB Drives Super Talent Technology, a leading manufacturer of Flash storage solutions and DRAM memory modules, today began shipping a 128GB USB 2.0 flash drive that includes AES-256 hardware encryption as a standard feature. | More of the same over the weekend for Junior. His lung is getting better little by little and now they're cycling the CPAP off and on. We actually got to bottle feed him today in between the CPAP. He sucked down 2.5 ounces real quick. It was the first time he's had an actual bottle in 3 weeks. That felt good to finally feed him normally. They've got him on an IV feed too. We're cycling into feeding him normally but it's another step in the right direction. Monday should be an important day for Junior. If he does well overnight tonight then tomorrow we'll take another step forward. |

| |
| My son is still in the PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit). His heart surgery recovery has gone well, but what's keeping him in the PICU so long is that he has a collapsed left lung. So he's still on a CPAP which is basically forced oxygen into his nose in an attempt to help inflate his lung and loosen some junk he has in there. Otherwise he's doing well in the rest of the areas and would probably be in step down already if it wasn't for the lung issue, which is quite serious and could go either way. He's not out of the woods yet. If his lung doesn't get better by Monday or Tuesday, they'll have to do another procedure on him to get more aggressive in trying to repair or speed up the healing process. ![]() I don't wish this heartache on anyone. |

| Whew, another rough day today. It started off positive though. He went through an expected minor surgical procedure to remove his stomach drain tube, which is a good thing. This was the last tube hanging out of him. The procedure went fine, however after it, he was having trouble coming out of the anesthesia on his own. It was taking way too long and his blood pressure and heart rate were dropping and dropping, so they had to help him along with some meds to speed up his heart and some oxygen bursts to help his lungs get enough air. It took 4-5 hours for him to completely come too, which should've taken maybe 30 minutes. It was pretty scary for a bit but he finally came around and was pretty much back to how he was pre-surgery, earlier that day. My heart can't take much more of this crap. I feel like I aged another 5 years today. ugh! Pretty much the same story today as yesterday. He looks the same and is doing well. They're expecting to take off the tubes and probably take some out of him real soon too. When I left him a few minutes ago, he was sleeping peacefully and hugging his teddy (stewie). So cute. ![]() Thanks for the prayers. They seem to be working so far. Keep them up! |

Well he took another big step last night, he was taken off the ventilator! w00t! They took the throat tube and both small tubes that were up his nose (and down his throat) out. I bet he's glad to get them out, that had to be uncomfortable! They have him on a mini machine that just pushes some oxygen up his nose to help out, but he's breathing on his own and his newly overhauled heart is ticking well on it's own. ![]() He's also off of many medications and such. They have him on just a few things now compared to the 20 things he was on 10 days ago. The doctors say he's doing better than expected after being taken off the ventilator, so that's encouraging. He's mildy sedated so he doesn't wiggle around and pull on his wiring harness. The contraption on his head, and up his nose, should be off tonight or in the morning. They've been weening the oxygen output all day and plan to the rest of the night until they pull it off. Can't wait. He's a tough little guy! |

| Another day, another day of improvement. He's doing well and they've taken him off of some more meds and continue weening him off the ventilator. We're hoping to remove the ventilator tomorrow. That will be his next big test for his recovery, to get his lungs working at a pace the doctors like. We're hoping for the best and all signs right now point to a successful recovery. It was a rocky road for the first week. I don't think my heart could take much more of that. He's come around real well over the past 3-4 days, showing how tough he can be. Just getting through a surgery of this magnitude was a real challenge and the longest 8 hours of my life, waiting to hear that he made it and was OK. So overall, he's doing well and looking better every day. Thanks again for the support. I can't wait for him to get all those tubes out of him and I can see him smile again. Here's to hoping for tomorrow. |

I just wanted to pop in and update all of you on my son's status. He had a great day today. He was alert and awake a good part of the day, with just mild sedation and other medications. His pressures were very good today and so on. Overall, his best day yet!![]() Again, I just wanted to let you know since my last post was pretty morbid. I'm a dad and with my son laid up like this, I'll have days like that. |

| Some of you know and most of you do not, but 10 days ago my 5 month old son had undergone open heart surgery to repair a heart defect he was born with called A/V Canal Defect. It's a very serious operation. He's been in the ICU ever since and it appears he will be in there for a while yet. His progress has been decent, but there is an issue or two regarding his pulmonary pressure, it’s too high and fluctuates more than they would like. His heart is actually doing quite well, but it’s the lungs that’s the issue. Since he’s had pulmonary hyper tension since he was born, because of his condition, his lungs learned to work at a faster pace (and under more pressure) than normal. So the doctors are trying to train his lungs to work in a more normal manner with the use of medications and a ventilator, however he’s fighting them every step of the way. It’s going to take time to re-train his lungs. No one knows for sure just how long it will take. It’s a daily struggle and only time (and the lord) will tell the outcome. Other than the lung issue, he’s doing pretty well all the way around. As you can imagine, this has been a very difficult and heart breaking time for our family to see our precious little boy in the ICU. He was such a happy baby, always smiling in a way that you'd never know anything was wrong with him leading up to the surgery. I can not wait to see him smile once again. ![]() The picture above was taken the night before we brought him in for his surgery (10 days ago) and the picture below was taken yesterday in the ICU. Heartbreaking.... ![]() Some quick news updates for you guys and I'm off to see my baby at the hospital. I hope for another step in the right direction today. OCZ Platinum vs. Crucial Ballistix DDR3-1600 Review @ Virtual-Hideout ![]() “Though it may have not started off that way, today's performance industry sees these two giants that we evaluate today - OCZ Technology and Crucial - butting heads across product lines. Both products promise the same speed, and carry the same capacity, and to be honest, even manage to perform with the same latencies - despite what Crucial has to say on the tin. So what is it then, that sets these products apart from the clashing titans? Only time will tell.” Thecus Introduces the N7700SAS NAS Server Thecus®, the leader in digital storage, today announced the availability of its latest 7-bay NAS server, the N7700SAS. XPad Slim Laptop Cooler Review @ Virtual-Hideout ![]() “As you all should know by now, We've reviewed a ton of laptop coolers/desks here on VH and I'm personally done most of them. The XPad Slim could be a good addition to someone out there in need of something to put under their laptop to keep the heat off their legs. However I cannot overlook the price and quality of the unit that I was shipped. The odd design with the logo on the bottom and the bottom looking like the top just feels weird to me. The part of the unit that's in direct contact, or closest to the super hot bottom of the laptop is just ABS plastic. How is that any better than using your laptop on a TV tray or lid from a Rubbermaid tote? The slots cut into the 4 corner coolers are functional to a point, but mostly for looks. Proper cooling needs proper airflow and the XPad Slim has neither. It simply props your laptop up a 1/4" on a firm surface. The bottom, the part on your legs, is flat as a pancake and certainly not the most comfortable for extended sessions.” Thecus Introduces the N5500 NAS Device ![]() 06/15/2009 – When people are searching for a NAS device, they invariably want something that is not only secure, but also performs well. Glacialtech X-Wing Notebook Cooler Review @ Virtual-Hideout ![]() “Overall the Glacialtech X-Wing Notebook Cooler is an undisputed winner in the looks department, however not so much in the cooling department. The quality of the build and innovative features built-in to the front panel make it very user friendly. Unfortunately because of the lack of cooling power, it's very hard for me to recommend this. I just know that geeks with gaming laptops love lights and gadgets and they'll be wanting to add this under their hot laptops. However it would do little good. The cooling power is anemic. My suggestion to Glacialtech would be to dramatically beef up the cooling system with something like a large, quiet 200mm fan centered in the unit.” OCZ Technology Introduces the Agility Series 2.5” Solid State Drives San Jose, CA—June 9, 2009—OCZ Technology Group, Inc., a worldwide leader in innovative, ultra-high performance and high reliability memory and computer components, today released the OCZ Agility SATA II 2.5” Solid State Drive (SSD) Series, an affordable offering for mainstream notebook and desktop users demanding the latest technology in this fast-developing sector of the storage market. Thermaltake V9 Black Edition Case Review @ Virtual-Hideout ![]() “The Thermaltake V9 Black Edition was designed to be quite a windstorm, but also to be very quiet because no one wants the sound of a box fan sitting next to them. You'll immediately notice the huge 230mm intake fan located on the left side panel. This is positioned to blow cool air directly onto the entire motherboard area, including CPU, memory, graphics, etc. This will be especially crucial when building a high performance dual graphics rig, and/or overclocking your components. Add to this the same huge 230mm exhaust fan located directly above the motherboard/CPU area, but instead this time it's on top of the chassis. This is designed to suck the hot air being expelled from the red hot CPU/Chipset/Memory area of the motherboard. So cool air in the side, it gets hot and exhausts right out the top. A potent combination of airflow it is and a must for today's ultra fast gaming rigs.” Corsair® launches Obsidian Series 800D high-performance chassis Taipei, Taiwan R.O.C., June 2nd, 2009 – Corsair®, a worldwide leader in high-performance computer and flash memory products, today at Computex 2009 announced its entry into the PC chassis category with the launch of the Corsair Obsidian Series 800D. Sparkle GTS250 Graphics Card Review @ Virtual-Hideout ![]() “The GTS250 is a bit of a strange product, in any way that you look at it. Effectively speaking, it's just a rebranded 9800GTX+ with a few small tweaks made, and the assurance of G92-B silicon under the hood. Now, while this rendition of last generation's champion may very well run much cooler and clock much better, it doesn't change the fact that it comes in at a strange price point. Out of the I7 heatsinks that I've tested thus far, this is easily the most positive experience, bar the fact that the wire clips are tough to engage inside a case, and caught on the roof fans of my CoolerMaster 690. What really impresses me though is that despite its simple design and light mass, this heatsink still managed to outstrip all comers, and do so in silent style. I'd have to easily recommend this product to anybody looking for a great i7 cooler!” HP Notebook PC Battery Pack Replacement Program (RECALL) In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, on May 14, 2009. HP announced a worldwide voluntary recall and replacement program for battery packs used in certain HP notebook PCs. HP customers with a battery pack affected by this program will be eligible to receive a replacement battery pack for each verified and recalled battery pack at no cost. Facebook's $200M investment values co. at $10B NEW YORK - `Wii-Fit' leads to boom in `exergaming' "In 30 minutes you can burn a bunch of calories," McCarthy says. EA describes its high-intensity focus as "Western fitness," as opposed to the emphasis on balance and yoga in "Wii Fit." "Active" also features a "30-Day Challenge," a prescribed workout routine that provides a bit more structure than Nintendo's program. From Madoff to Sully, news events inspire video games Online gaming site Games2Win launched "Saving Captain Phillips," a simple, two-dimensional shooting game, within nine days of the actual rescue. Not to be outdone, Kuma Games followed soon afterwards with "Somali Showdown: Pirates on the High Seas," a PC multiplayer action game that puts players in the middle of a pirate attack on a cargo ship -- and even lets them become one of the pirates. Why Google might be a little evil We all know how an auction works. The auctioneer sits up front and keeps calling for higher bids until there's one bidder left—and that person wins. Now imagine an auction where the auctioneer won't let you see the other bidders, but assures you they are there, on the other side of a curtain. The auctioneer won't tell you who the other bidders are; you're only told a range of prices that others have bid. And there's another twist: simply paying the most doesn't guarantee you'll win, because the auctioneer has created a system that lets some bidders win even when they pay less. You may not like this system, but you must participate because this auctioneer controls the bulk of the market. OCZ 8GB Throttle eSATA/USB Drive Review @ Virtual-Hideout ![]() “You could say it’s a simple evolutionary step for thumb drives, but I think it’s a welcome one. There is of course the talk of USB 3.0, with speeds up to 400MB/s, however it will be some time before the hardware to use that is available, let alone common. As it stands, every new computer has sata ports, which are easy enough to convert into eSata. There is no denying the speed you can have here and now. Not to mention for $30 (8GB), it’s only about $8 more than a regular 8GB usb drive, that for 3X the performance. If you don't mind carrying a USB cable (that is used for practically all external 2.5" drives as well), you aren't going to be able to find anything faster in this size, or price range.“ Patriot Memory expands their DDR2 SODIMM Line with 4GB and 8GB . Supermicro SuperServer 5035L-IB Review @ Virtual-Hideout ![]() ““Server” and “Desktop” are words that are used all the time, a lot of times I think that not everyone really understands what they really mean. In fact there is no standard that makes every server different from every desktop. There is nothing stopping the average user from using Supermicro’s SuperServer 5035L-IB as an everyday “Desktop” computer. It can do all the web surfing, email, word documents and spread sheets you could throw at it. When looking at the 5035 as a server, at least for a small/home business system, it makes even more sense. Dual networking makes using it as a router/firewall a breeze. Also having a web server connected to a database with no other online access is a very common security “Best practice”. Most small businesses and home offices will also not have a dedicated sever room, so noise levels end up being a much bigger deal, in this aspect it really excels.” G.Skill Announces the Falcon SSD in 64GB to 256GB capacities using the latest Indilink controller ![]() Taipei, Taiwan--20 April, 2009--G.Skill International Co. ASRock X58 SuperComputer Motherboard Review @ Virtual-Hideout ![]() “In the world of computers, value priced hardware has had quite a bit of a bad rap for quite a while. In the early dawn of the industry, cutting costs meant cutting corners. In these later days, the procedure of cutting costs has come through efficiency, simple manufacturing, and limited bundles. Now, while ASRock has spent much of it's time in the former of these worlds, I happen to be able to confidently say that this board - the x58 SuperComputer is going to be a positive change on the pattern - a board with a good layout, plenty of features, and a nice low cost. The only potential catching point? We'll need to see how it performs. After all, if that ticket is in the bag, we may simply have a contender for the top slot!” Lian Li launches latest NC-09 Notebook Cooler 17 April, 2009, Keelung, Taiwan – Lian-Li Industrial Co.
