Taking the Plunge:

After receiving the 2nd XFX 7800GT, I decided to take some pictures of the card and even take out my current 7800GT for a photo shoot. Let's take a good look at the twin victims here..

Lots of Goodies Included

The XFX 7800GT

I'm probably weak minded enough to buy the XFX card for the "X" shaped box. I mean, come on, that's pretty smart marketing there and very unique. If i'm going to spend almost $400 on a graphics card, it better be in a fancy box! Although it took me a few minutes to figure out how to get the card out! heh.

As you can see there's a ton of stuff included. Most notably the dual DVI to VGA connectors and some nice games including FAR CRY which I had never played until getting this card. (I have since beat FAR CRY and anxiously awaiting the sequel!).

400w PSU? Ya think!

Brothers in Arms

The card itself is just an Nvidia reference card design. What that means is this is the exact design that Nvidia releases to manufacturers as their finalized design. Most companies will not fix what is not broken and also save enormous costs and just go with this design. It works, why change it? Although some companies will play with adding their own spicey heatsinks and cooling designs, the card, 99% of the time, remains unchanged.

The XFX 7800GT is no lightweight. It's a beast of a card in your hands, but don't worry, it's not thick like the 6800GT Ultra is. This card does not take up 2 or 3 PCI slots. It's single-width card and packs more punch than anything currently on the market other than it's big brother the 7800GTX.

I know ATI is finally launching it's new graphic cards right now, but I'm quite concerned over ATI and their driver situation as well as paper launches in the past. Call me an Nvidia Fan boy and laugh all the way to the BEST CARD! ;)

I will say that looking at both of these XFX 7800GT's lined up, I think they're perfect candidates for a pair of new heatsinks. I smell another article on replacing the reference VGA coolers with something more....BEEFY! I'll let you know when I work up the balls to rip apart $800 worth of 7800GT's, because I can't do just one....you know that. I'd have to do then BOTH at the same time.

The XFX 7800GT isn't exactly your standard reference card though, because it is OVERCLOCKED! Yes, factory overclocked from XFX. That's another reason (other than the fancy box!) that I chose this brand and this card.

Here's some specs, you can find the rest of them here.
