CorePad DeskPad XXXL

XTracPad Ripper XXL

Introduction:

On the test bench today are two brand new products to hit the market: the CorePad DeskPad XXXL and the XTracPads Ripper XXL.

I think it's only fair to start this article off with "I do not use a mouse. I use an optical trackball (thumball)" I have since the beginning of time, and I always will. I hate mice. They're cumbersome and need far too much real estate. I understand I'm in the minority, save your hate mail :)

So you may be wondering why I would possibly be writing this article. That's simple. The items I have for you today are NOT mouse pads. They're DeskPads. What's the difference you ask? About 24" in width and 6" in height! More on that later.

Today I'll be reviewing two of the most functional items, for me personally, that I have come across in a long time. I have literally been waiting years for this product to hit the market and not only did "it" hit the market, but TWO of them did at the same time!

I'm talking about the new humungous desktop surfaces from CorePad and XTracPads. They may be made from the same material as a mouse pad, but they are far more functional than a tiny square you stick next to your keyboard. These babies are HUGE! Both units measure in at just about 3 feet wide and nearly 18" tall!  You can put much more than your mouse on this, you can put your keyboard too with tons of room to spare. Let's take a closer look at the 2 newcomers...

Packaging:

I received both the CorePad DeskPad XXXL and the XTracPads Ripper XXL in OEM packaging because as I know it, they are both still working on finalizing the retail packaging. Honestly, this product doesn't need any fancy box. A simple sticker stating "HUGE MOUSE PAD INSIDE" on the side would say it all. LOL!

OEM Packaging

OEM packaging for this kind of product means it's rolled up and dressed in clear plastic. Here's the obligatory "peek" :)

A Closer Look:

Using the pictures below for reference, there are 4 things of interest I want to point out to you.

CorePad XXXL on Ripper XXL

Measurement Differences

Logo Comparison

(top)Ripper (bottom)CorePad

Ripper XXL includes Mad-Tape

Mad-Tape Close-Up

1) The CorePad DeskPad XXXL is every so slightly smaller in dimensions than the Ripper XXL. More-so on the bottom right corner because the CorePad has decided to round that particular area. I have no idea why personally.

2) Both logos look to be applied with durability in mind. However the XTracPad Ripper XXL's logo is much larger than the CorePad's even though CorePad's logo is on the DeskPad twice (top right and bottom left). The Ripper XXL's logo is on the deskpad just once, on the bottom right and again, much more eye catching.

3) The CorePad XXXL is slightly thicker than the Ripper XXL. And I mean "slightly", however I noticed it immediately. The CorePad just felt thicker right off the bat. What does that translate into? Well, more cushion and maybe more for your money (if it wasn't for that bottom right curvature).

4) The CorePad XXXL comes with just the deskpad. The Ripper XXL is packaged along with a set of two 5" strips of XTracPads Mad-Tape. Is this a freebie? Not exactly.
