Introduction In my Xabre C3 Summer CPL Case Mod Competition article, I gave a small history of the C3 competition. If you missed it, be sure to run through it. This article will be focused on the event and competition. Unfortunately this time around there were much less competitors, however the few that were there were all amazing. I was among the spectators this time around along with many other long time competitors who couldn't make it because various reasons. I couldn't make it because of lack of funds, and time. This also marks the first CPL event I haven't brought my computer to in 4 years years of perfect attendance (which totals 9 events). The fact that the majority of the event was during finals didn't help. As last time, and pretty much all times before, it was held in downtown Dallas, Texas, blocks away from the Kennedy Assassination, in the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Event information here. The Event As always the event was flowing with people. Some gaming, some talking, others polishing their cases, and one sick individual, giving his case some tongue. These are some of the booths of the sponsors who made this event possible... Intel was there as always, showing their support and their latest technologies. In this case the new 3.06GHz processor. Their booth featured stations with the latest technologies in full effect for the public to see and experience. Being the largest supporter, the event is officially dubbed "CPL® Pentium® 4 Processor Winter 2002 Event." NVidia was also there this time showing their colors and their new Geforce FX. They also had stations there to game on and see their latest technologies in action. The box above to the right was a machine NVidia was nice enough to give away. Shuttle was on hand to show off their new XPC Series of mini pc's. The above feature hyper-thread support and an EL sheet on the front panel, however my camera's flash cancelled out the cool glow emitted. NetFire was there, and if you missed them, then you're probably blind. This huge thing was front and center following the registration desk. They provide the CPL with bandwidth and had a bunch of other fun stuff going on at their booth during the event. Above are views of the BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer area, sorry about the blurriness) and the tournament area while the event was in full swing. It feels much bigger in person. << Back to Articles Page | Competition and Competitors >>
